Anyone thinking that the issues in Venezuela are solely to do with Maduro's lack of competence is laughably naïve.

He is indeed part of the problem, but Venezuela's biggest problem is that interests from outside the country want to install a client regime to further their own strategic interests. (And make $$$ from those massive oil reserves and revenues, which most assuredly would be wasted on enhancing the lives of average people.)

Well I think Simon's head is large; always involved in espionage. (Name that tune)

Its gone pretty "quite" on the right, hasn't it?

1.Putin...he certainly has shown "another way of doing politics" and f..ing up a country in the process

2.Saudi Arabia....dictatorship only being criticised by certain posters if they are of the left

3.Belarus.....Evil dictator for years...never enters the minds of certain posters on here

4. Poland/Hungary.Dodgy right wing nationalist regimes..

5.Turkey.Good top see Trump cosying up recently to the authoritarian right wing nationalist leader of the land which jails more journalists than any other (or nearly any other).

Lovely Jubbly

Still at least tunnel vision and extreme bias keeps Mr Hog and his ilk fulfilling their frothing quota...a frother undergoing cold turkey is not a pretty sight,I suspect

Thoughts of this? What will it take for the left to recognise that their economic ideas are doomed to failure.

When people are emotionally invested in ideas, evidence becomes a tool that only has relevance when it supports a view they hold.

We are animals. We feel before we think. Emotion drives our actions. Hopefully there are enough amongst us who examine our thoughts but ultimately what you see is that people rationalise their thoughts and actions to fit their emotional response.

It's true of the right or the left or of anyone but the above is a good example of it.

'if the poison doesn't work, what you need is more poison'......yeah, only if you are trying to kill the patient.

Anti immigrant sentiment is a good example of that. The more the poison of blaming the "other" for their ills doesn't improve the believer's life, they more they rely on more of the same poison to satiate their feelings of unhappiness
