That's the thing with non league football, and why it is so great. If some money did come in, and they got a couple of promotions, improved facilities etc then would you actually enjoy it any more? Probably not. After all, if that's what you wanted then you would drive up the a23 and go watch Crawley :-0

It's been a really hard trade off in my mind, I've wanted the club to do well and win as many games as possible (obviously not cheering them on to lose each week!) but at the same time I don't want them to get so big that the very reasons I started watching are snatched from me. As it is I can occasionally chat to people high up within their club, sit next to the owners etc and feel a bit more part of it than I do when I sit amongst 25,000 or so in a Premier League game.

I think the perfect balance for me would be for us to be comfortable in our league (even if that got stale) and to progress in some cups now and then. Back when we were Sussex County League the FA Vase was the best tournament there was. We had a real chance of winning it a couple of times as one of the bigger fish in the pond. Since promotion we aren't eligible and we are now a small fish in the FA Trophy instead. But there are about 40 other cups we compete in. Some cup run excitement would be perfect if we can stay afloat in the league at the same time.

Is that the ones that had some serious financial wrongdoings and a chairman that faked cancer or was that Croydon Athletic?

Yes we regularly go to Ebbsfleet. Promotion last season after a number of near misses. They are well funded and I can see them making the football league within 2/3 years. Cheap easy to park and I can have a beer while I watch the game. Plus my eldest son has just completed his work experience in their offices and loved it

Didn't Ebbsfleet used to exist under a different name? I'm afraid I'm not as knowledgeable as Mr W, but I vaguely remember them being in the same league as my local club under a different name before they shot off!

Yes, Sutton United and I might be getting a season ticket there next season!
Far more entertaining and top of the league!

I occasionally go to watch my old home town team Bromley and I've been to a few Maidstone United games as they're not far from me. I used to watch Sittingbourne FC when I first moved down here, but haven't been up there for years!!

When I lived in South Norwood I used to watch Croydon and when I lived in Sidcup Welling United were just down the road so i'd go when I fancied it
