Some of the play yesterday was hard to watch. Dann and Ward on the ball look so uncomfortable. Puncheon as Captain did next to nothing productive all game. All worrying signs if we are not to find replacements.

However as bad as some of these things were equally appalling were fans jeering and booing when the game was in the balance when players played a ball back or played it short, only to then jeer Hennessy when he did kick it long. Hardly going to fill an already jittery bunch of players with confidence.

Yes it was not good, yes a lot of things need to change, yes it was a concerning display, yet we need to support not create more anxiety so early on in the game/season.

Dann and Ward looked ponderous and uncomfortable.
I have been critical of Puncheon for a while and yesterday he was as abject as ever - which hardly surprised me.

Yes, all round very worrying.

Yes, neither Dann nor Ward look up to it. Between them they are giving up a goal a game at the moment. Sign Chambers, and a gk. Play Fosu-Mensah as RWB and we might have a decent defence. Alternatively stick Luka back in as RCB, then play Loftus-Cheek as DM alongisde Punch. Then play Townsend in th etoo 3. Something like that! Personally I would also give Schlupp a go as LWB.

PS Snaffle a really good back up striker for no more than £10m!

As I have written on another thread..it doesn't matter how many negatives there were from yesterday, there is no excuse for booing the decisions of a 20 year old youngster who is making his debut in a new league. If this was a Crystal Palace academy player this would not have happened. Regardless of his experience (how much can you have as a 20 year old?) he would have been extremely nervous and was probably only following instructions anyhow. The booing would have delighted the opposition and provided them with encouragement they needed. It's pathetic and needs to stop. Boo at the end of the game if you are unhappy but not during the game when there is already enough tension around.

We have to face facts. We bought our way out of trouble last year. We cannot continue to do this as Parish has alluded to. We have to change the way in which the club operates and attempt to compete by developing our own academy players and taking very promising youngsters on Loan, whilst trying to pick up a few purchases along the way.

We cannot continue to give the opposition 65-70% of the possession in each game as per last year...whilst those tactics will earn you the occasional win against the big 6 they will not work against the Burnley's, West Ham's etc as they will just invite you on to them and as witnessed last year when we have more of the ball we were terrrible. That is what FDB is trying to change and it will take probably 7/8/9 games but we have to be patient.

That's fair enough rattus but you don't need to completely reshape the team to do that and decide it's the best thing to do with the players you have before you assess them, then bring in 3 and need another 2-3. That I'm afraid is bullsh1t if ever I've smelt it.

First game of the season. Keep it tight, carry on the form of last season and integrate the new players. Hope for a win but take a 1-1 draw.

I hope we haven't got a massive ego on our hands and will give Frank time (like it matters to him if I don't) but that seemed a foolish way to start his Palace career...

Let's recognise that both the first 2 goals came from Ward being beaten by his man when actually stood in a normal RB position. That would have happened regardless of the system we were playing, as would the resultant defending from the crosses.

Dann ducking out of a long ball and letting Ince go through 1 on 1 was nothing to do with the system either.

On another day, Dann would've scored, Benteke would've scored from the corner, and Benteke/Wilf would've scored from Townsend's low cross. All, again, nothing to do with the system. Wilf got put into loads of space in the box in the first half and did nothing with it too.

Rather than calling the new manager and system doomed after 1 game, let's recognise some really poor individual performances, unrelated to the system, which would have seen us battered regardless of how we set up. The players have at least as much blame to take from yesterday.

But we didn't have a winning formula or team last season did we? We got soundly beat by a fair amount of 2nd rate opposition and stayed up by some pretty freakish results against some of the top 6.

His philosophy and tactics would have been discussed in the meetings with Parish and itnwould have been obvious that it would take time to evolve. It is clear we need a couple of people for key positions but don't make out we had a successful setup and unit last season.

So it's imperative we play 3-4-3 to do it. Is that what you're saying? No other clubs evolve unless it's 3-4-3? Really mate?

Nope, that's not what I am saying at all.

We played 4-3-3 last season and it produced more poor results than it did good ones. Each manager has a preferred formation and preferred tactics, whether that be Alladyce, Pardew or de Boer. De Boer's formational preference appears to be happens to be 3-4-3 with the emphasis on keeping posesssion as opposed to letting the opposition having the ball for the best part of 90 minutes. It's a change that would have been discussed with Parish and both would have known it would have taken time to adapt too.

Look at Conte last year..carried on with the 4-4-2 from the season before..chels were crap. Changed to 3-5-2 after 5 games and put Moses rwb and suddenly a 20 game unbeaten run.

If will take the original players some time to adapt to this new style but players like Fosu-Mensah and RLC & Wieldewald more adept to playing with the ball than without it. They will also try not to give possession of the ball away as easily which may mean the odd backwards pass every now and then and not a Delaney style hump up the pitch (which oddly I don't remember too much booing of!).

We were more 4-2-3-1 until Luka came in. When he and a decent ball playing centre mid or 2 are in the team we were and will be effective.

Those 3 plus Benteke, Zaha and Townsend and you have a very talented 6 in front of defence. Have full backs able to overlap rather than have gaps in front of them there you are.

Frank's preferred formation till now, well actually the minute he was hired before knowing the squad, was 4-3-3. At some point without actually knowing it, he deemed us suited to 3-4-3, having the players for it. Yet he's signed 3 and needs another 3. That's 6 of 11 before subs. Get the picture?

Oh and he's relying on Benteke to press from the front. Yep, Frank knew the squad was perfect for it.

Maybe because we didn't play them under Allardyce?
