Their very attendance at an NF rally guaranteed violence and they knew that. I don't see counter demos as defending people. It is political pure and simple.

The National Front would specifically march through areas which had high migrant populations. Who do you think was doing the provoking of whom. The NF etc were proper racists and violence followed them everywhere.

The NF weren't interested in peaceful protest, or democratic change, they were the classic 'fascist vanguard of street fighters'.

There was always going to be trouble, whether there was an anti-Nazi league - the ANL formed because of incidents of violence by the far right bringing different groups together.

Well they managed to get close to UKIPs recent zenith percentage vote in local elections back in the mid 70's. Around 10%. Not insignificant. They had a hell of a lot of press coverage too. Best they were nipped in the bud just in case. Populism and all that. Can lead to daft voting.

The 10% was not marching or bashing people. They were a protest vote against immigration as was the UKIP vote in part. UKIP obviously had Brexit as well.

And that was a job for the police.

What we have here is two groups using ideology as an excuse for violence.
It reminds me of the episode of Star Trek with the half black and half white men, but opposites, who destroy their planet because they can't see that they are two sides of the same problem.

You call Corbyn far left!

Yeah, you really weren't there - The police in the 80s and early 90s weren't doing so well in their curbing of far right violence - and had a p8ss poor reputation in regards to race.

No one trusted them. Not the Left, not the Right, and most certainly not the Black, Indian and Asian British communities.

A lot of the police in The Met in the late 70's and early to mid-80's were the ultra right. They carried their Conservative Party memberships cards proudly. The SPG were nice though.

What evidence do you have for this?

So no evidence then.

You were there? How old were you then about 9? As for an article in the laughingly names 'Independant' newspaper (that is now merely on-line because it was so f'in boring and biased).

The police at Lewisham were attacked by the left contingents of the mobs that chose to confront each other. Just trying to keep a bit of law and order but you cheer on those attacking them.
