He's not exactly lazy, but there were plenty of occasions on Saturday when I wanted to see all 6 ft 3 of him committing to challenges and getting stuck into defenders. He's under no pressure for his position so you can see why he might not bother to put himself at risk.

As for playing to his strengths... Well, one of our best moments was a Hennessey long ball, flicked on by Benteke to Zaha, who was already running off him anticipating that Benteke would win it.

I thought that about a few of our players. Not many players seemed to want to risk a bruise.

Agree regarding the second point too. When Hennessey did hoof it up field we seemed to fair better on most of the occasions.

Benteke is not the complete player but if we play to his strengths we will give ourselves a fighting chance. He is lethal in the air and his hold up play is spot on, the problems lies with not having someone close to him for flick ons etc.

Play with Milivojevic, Loftus Cheek, Cabaye in Midfield with Zaha having a bit of a free roll.

I think Townsend should be given a fair crack at right WB, He has the energy to get up and down that line all day. Poor Ward was like a lost soul in that position.

We know he's probably the best in the air in the league and we stay narrow and keep it on the ground?

wtf?!

He was a massive success at Villa (not Liverpool) and they at the time played a similar way to how trying to now

Sounds like 3-5-2 with PVA or Schlupp at LWB.

Watching him saturday, He's either lazy, unfit or just useless with the ball at his feet. Don't know how much HT paid for their new striker, but he looked miles better than Benteke.

He is Steve Mounie and they paid £11.5 Mill for him.
I did say before the game he was strong aerially and thrives on delivery from wide areas !

Plus he made runs wide and behind the defence, and closed down our defenders ....but apparently benteke can only score if you put it right on his head in the box....

Corner which he met with a thumping header and HT goalie made a cracking save.
Is it just easier for you to pick up on his weaknesses because our defence were so sh**. If our defence was more solid and knew what they were doing, then C.B could more easily focus on what he s paid for, why buy a striker and expect him to defend ? What s Dann etc for ?

The fact that he won more aerial battles than anyone else in the EPL this weekend should make you think that maybe, just maybe, he could do with some support...........like Mounie had.

Look at any side playing 3-4-3 and it's clear the (attacking) intention is to have the main striker as a focal point, not simply a goal scorer - it gives him support & options (when done correctly).

Will this be five? It's gonna be five! It IS five!

And hats the way FDB wants to play !!!
Tippy tappy football to the feet, how does that help a striker who thrives on crosses.
The reason Huddersfield s striker did so well, BECAUASE they played to his strengths, not fannying around with it, back and forth around the halfway line.

Not demanding that he become a defender or aimlessly chase the opposition, but do you really believe that he's making the most of his presence when challenges present themselves? I don't think opposition defenders feel particularly intimidated when he's in the sort of mood he was in on Saturday.

Fire up the whole team + give him some competition and he's terrifying.

FDB has specifically said he wants to use the wingers to cross the ball. He has also said 4-3-3 is his preferred system but that he felt the latter meant Wilf spent too much time doing defensive work: hence the switch. Given that he also said he is prepared to switch formations, I think he means it would be good to have more than one way of playing.

Furthermore, He has made it clear he would like to create options other than wing play, because, as we have seen over the last four years, we have been worked out and are all too easy to nullify either in terms of our predictable formation or tactics (especially at home).

Tippy-tappy, as you call it, works where the team keeps the ball rather than hoofing it forward, as we have done all too often over the years (to groans from the crowd). The problem right now is that the players seem to think that inane tippt-tappy is all they can do. For professional athletes, it is pretty pathetic that some of them cannot pass properly let alone read the game well.

If we don't change, we will end up like Sunderland or Villa. Unfortunately, change involves risk too, but the potential rewards are higher. I'm all for it.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

So basically, Benteke should ditch his primary (and widely recognised) asset - aerial power- and adapt to the experiment? Fine.
In that case why not just sell him to a team that wants to play to those strengths and buy a striker whose primary strengths are on the ground?
That would avoid everyone slagging off Beneteke for not changing his natural playing style and satisfy FDB's ego/grand plan.
I think CB is one of the best headers in the PL - get those crosses in from the wings and he will score.

Absolutely!
