40 years ago. I remember this more than the Lewisham riots.
I went to work with me dad that day. He ddistributed the evening news and I often went out in his bright yellow Evening News van. People were literally trying to get at the papers before we walked from the van into the drop.
Should have kept a copy...

Me Aunty Pam cried for days.

A legend who bought black music to the masses in an acceptable (notwithstanding the hips) way.

What's yer favourite track by the king?

In The Ghetto is one I've always late.

Elvis to me just meant sh1t films everyday during the school holidays and big sideburns.

He didn't even write his own songs, did he? If he wasn't such a good looking b'stard I don't think we would have heard of him. Could sing though and swivel.

Worst s**t ever taken.

Out of curiosity, wasn't he 'fond of questionably young girls' ala Glitter.

Me too. Awful actor and music that meant nothing to me.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

"Elvis the pelvis".
He's not for me.
Would never go to see an Elvis tribute act.

My favourite Elvis song was the one he sung about his cake.

In the gateaux

Living down here does have some advantages. At least you can see them cry.

Glad it's not just me that doesn't get all the hype around Elvis, awful boring music. Maybe if I was born in the Elvis era I'd feel differently.

Although I'd say the same about the Beatles as well

Kings Of leon
Queen
Eminem
AC/DC
Ed Sheeran (some of his stuff)
Michael Jackson
Bob Marley
Rod Stewart

I also like UK Garage, house and a bit of old skool jungle.

Funny enough for you?

You would have none of those without Elvis.
He invented the concept of a pop star.

Before him you had crooners like Sinatra and then some great Black rock and rollers like Little Richard and Chuck Berry but Elvis took it to a new level in terms of popularity. He inspired a whole generation of singers and musicians.
