At school I was part of a team that won a cricket knock-out cup called the Frank Harris Trophy. The final was played at a ground occasionally used by Kent CCC (Hesketh Park, Dartford) and the opposition included Graham Dilley and a lad (batsman) called da Silva who I was later told went on to play for Sri Lanka (not an uncommon name in SL cricket, though). Anyway, it's the only sports competition I ever won...apart from some darts competitions a few years later, and I remember it as clear as yesterday. We were expected to be slaughtered, even after we somehow bowled them out for 116, but we won by 9 wickets! So I'll go with Frank Harris, but 42 years on, sadly I can't remember who he was or why the competition bore his name.

My old neighbour Frank...never knew his surname.
Some people are like Slinkies … not really good for anything, but you can’t help smiling when you see one tumble down the stairs. |
