I said at the time of the Everton approach that his lack of commitment was worrying given his short tenure at Watford. If he'd done well here he wouldn't have lasted more than a season before moving on, and perhaps Parish recognised that too.

Someone made an interesting tongue in cheek comment on social media that perhaps Everton could now get rid of Sam and then sign Silva without having to pay the £10m compensation

Silva is overrated. Hes fine when he has a fully fit squad and he can put his strongest team on the pitch, yes they have injuries but so do we and look how Roy has managed to keep us picking up points with a depleted squad. Silva goes missing when the muck and bullets start flying

Seeing what has happened over the weekend - I think we can say we missed a bullet there. Had we managed to get him last summer he'd have wanted off at the first opportunity. With Watford's owners citing a lack of focus since Everton's approach I have to say it feels great having a focused top manager at Palace in Roy in place for the second half of the season.

Dodged a bullet?

But hired an atom bomb instead. Silva or Dyche were undoubtedly better options to me than de Boer then, still are, and forever will be.

Actually if we did get Silva and let him go, not only might we have Roy in a better league position and team condition but also be £10 million richer from Everton's compensation offer.

I agree there is an issue there but are you and others completely forgetting we hired Frank?

Actually when you make that point it raises the question whether Silva would be really good for a bigger, more equipped club, like Everton.

Frank was the right choice over Silva for what we wanted. Someone who was going to a stick around and bring stability. It didn’t work out but he still ticked the boxes more than Silva who openly admitted he would be off the first time a big club flashed their knickers at him.

You must be having a laugh. Didn't he even hint that he wasn't intending that?

Frank was so intent on showing to the top clubs he could play this 3-4-3 system they were all playing and he had once at Inter that he was willing to destroy the club and players.

What we, erm Parish said he wanted as he always does is prem experience, not tinpot league experience with the biggest club and best supply of players and scouts.

And there was all that rubbish about Frank's agent calling Parish to say the press were wrong in Frank preferring the Southampton job. Yeah right.

Which ever way it’s dressed up, Silva ultimately failed at Hull as he didn’t keep them up. This was the job he was bought into do and he didn’t achieve it. Don’t forget, with 3 games to go and the next game being Sunderland at home, Hull had positioned themselves well. Silva’s tactics and team selection against Sunderland and then Palace were extremely naive to say the least. At both Hull and Watford he has thrown together 5/6 signings and they have done well for 10 games and then fallen away badly. Pardew has taken a hell of a lot of stick for previously having that managerial trait.

Nobody knows for a fact whether we spoke to Silva or whether he had already done a deal with Watford which would of meant it was pointless for Parish to fly and speak to him. What is pretty accurate is that the guy has had two premier league opportunities and not done more than 6 months in either. It doesn’t mean that Parish was right to appoint de Boer (which I thought was a reasonable appointment at the time) but it does indicate he done the right thing in not appointing Silva.

I don't quite agree with you there, i think Frank was the right choice over Silver coz we sacked Frank after 4 games and got Roy, don't think we could have done that with Silver, by the time his star was fading it would probably have been too late

Watford would have been talking to Silva weeks before Sam quit.
And they would have been talking to Gracia for weeks as well.
All lined up ready to take over.
Nearly as good as Southampton’s “Black Box’.

1. Only Hull had by far the worst squad so to write off taking it to a few games left is by nat means clear cut failure.

2. Guess who was man of the match v Sunderland? Jordan Pickford. They had several very good chances but it wasn't to be. You must've been incredibly calm watching that match because everyone at the time was fretting until Sunderland scored.

3. His selections v Palace were because he definitely had 3 big players unavailable. It may have been 4. It was definitely at least 3.

I think Silva is a victim of his own ambition rather than being useless or a failure as you say.

That final point. Let's just say Parish could've hired Silva. We'd be better off after 7-11 plus games and have £10 million in the bank. With Frank we were nearly ruined.

It all doesn’t really matter and water under the bridge. We have ended up with Roy, who is a class act at club level. We are much better off with Roy, than either Silva, Dyche or Pellegrino, all of whom are ambitious and would be just using us as a stepping stone in a career path.

Dyche was a no go.
