Great thread and if Benteke put himself about like AJ and stopped being one dimensional he would be a threat every week. At present he relies the majority of the time on service. When it doesn't happen he is largely anonymous. Not what you want at any time and definitely not from a £30m man. Also show a bit of respect to the OP not resort to abuse!

Maybe Benteke will go down in the records as a better player however I doubt he will go down for his time at Palace as the better player.

Clive Allen was a prolific goalscorer but not during his time with us.

I rate Benteke and see his quality however AJ during his time at Palace was proper special.

I feel more confident with the likes of danny butterfield and mad matty lawerence unfront then benteke, hes awful at anything under his forehead, and has no movement anyway. only shows up against 'big teams' not worth the fee and would have sakho over him every time. oh well, lets hope fdb and parish and freedman have a plan, maybe freedman upfront!!! ))

Obviously they’re apples and oranges but looking at their goal tally’s; Andy Johnson scored 51 premier League goals in his entire career, Benteke has 66 already.

AJ was a great player for us but Benteke is far superior. If we play to his strengths (as we did with AJ), he’ll go down as one of our all-time greats.
