It's not the system, it's the players. The team that played today, apart from a 17 year old kid, is the same team that really should have been relegated last season. We're still bringing on Lee and Kelly as subs. We're still playing puncheon who's played awful for the last three years We were s**t until sakho played, and weve been s**t since he left. Why should we be suprised that we haven't won a game? Ubless we find some money from somewhere and buy at least 3 more quality players, we are in deep, deep trouble.

We have a lack of squad depth and too many overpaid do-nothings. That is a result of several years of poor quality recruitment.

N.b. even Sam took 10 games and some truly awful football to get many of the same players to play effectively, and we only managed that for a few games before losing 4 of the last 5 matches under him.

In combination, the above tells me it's not just FDB or the system's fault. There are far deeper issues.

Id suggest it's getting managers who are not effective for what we are, which is a premier league club with a championship infrastructure.

Pulls played his "system" to our strengths - got results.

Allardyce played his "system" to our strengths.

We are a side that is geared to be quick on the break and Selhurst Park is not a Wembley, an Old Trafford or an Emirates - it's a rickety old shed, but with an atmosphere that is its own.

Palace as a club don't fit the blueprint, it's like a family business that has done well, but needs to adapt to take that next step. I'd argue the manager is one of the last pieces. Christ knows Jordan wasn't great at running a club, but he was responsible for the academy.

Changing the playing style is say step 6, we will never be able to change the style unless we stick to what we are good at for the first part of a season and get safe before Xmas. Then you can start planning for next year, rather than reacting in January each year and panicking to try and survive for another year.

Picking players for Palace is different to the big boys, I think a Gary Neville said Sakho was good for us as he had to be switched on all the time, whereas at a bigger club you don't as you're not under as much pressure all the time. The mentality is different l,much like a manager like a Guardiloa is about managing egos more than tactics.

FDB isn't someone to change the fabric of the wholeplace - as he won't understand it. He is someone who can be the missing piece later on. You can't start a revolution from an uneven base.

I just can't see how he can defend the system or the players after that. He has to go back to 4 at the back and play the style of football we are set up for and drop this complete obsession with a back 3.

So we buy players FDB wants, then sack him. How does that work?

He has to be given time, to even think about sacking him is ridiculous, he will learn from these defeats.

Palace need to show more...

Crystal Palace 0-2 Swansea

Crystal Palace manager Frank de Boer had a few frank words to say in his post-match BBC Sport interview after his side's second home defeat of the season.

Those who are easily offended might want to look away now...

"We have to show some balls from the first second of the game," says the Dutchman. "It wasn't until after we were two nil down, that we showed we really can play.

"It was not because of the quality of Swansea that we lost. We made two mistakes in the first-half, they had two half chances and scored both times.

"It is a very hard lesson for us. If we do not show balls or courage then you get punished. In second-half you saw a different Palace who creates chance and with a bit of luck you make one of those. It just wasn't the day for us.

"Hopefully you will see a different Palace after international window."

What he omits to mention is that the "different" Palace was only different because it a) included Cabaye and more importantly b) played a formation it knew and understood instead of the one he "prefers".

I would agree re. changing the style. But these are the same players who were crap for most of Sam's tenure, and crap for an entire year before he arrived.

Don't forget, in his first 8 league games the team got 4 points. Things did not improve until after our near 40m January spending spree.

That's why I don't think it is a simple as being FDB or the playing style's fault. They might not be helping, but there are deeper squad issues that go back a long way.

Why is our spending so restricted? CYL, Williams, Sako, Mutch, Kelly, Ward, Delaney, Hennesey, etc., are not good enough. Only a couple of them regularly contribute in any meaningful positive way. We must be wasting 200k+ pw on wages.

Now, Williams may come good but the rest are overpaid and underperforming and have been for a while. That's why I don't think this is just about the manager or his system.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

We threw money away trying to solve a manager when it was the players who we should have thrown the money at to save the manager.
We are a silly wasteful club.

De Boer could well turn out to be the biggest mistake ever. How long do we give him and his useless tactics?

Well at least we'll have had five consecutive seasons in the Premier League, which is one more than I was expecting last season.
