How would you feel, as a parent, if your child was taught by silly Stirling? That's pretty bad man. I don't involve politics with IT, it's unprofessional. Your child would be taught the subject.

Well, I wish you'd stop doing it. You should call them the far right perhaps. I honestly think it's just because it's easier to chant and enables you to demonise more easily. But it often ends up with people being smeared and sometimes attacked who most definitely aren't 'nazis'. Edited by Stirlingsays (01 Sep 2017 3.10pm) I said I call them fascists. Not Nazis. The problem really comes when views that should be abhorred by right thinking people are renamed and slowly seep into the acceptable spectrum.Something we should guard against,so when describing Argentina under the junta or Peron,Spain under Franco and perhaps Hungary under Orban,Croatia under Tudman and Russia under Putin ()to name a few),yes,I'll use that term or fascistic or neo-fascistic or quasi fascistic. Its not, communist kids used to pledge allegiance to the country etc. Its a questionable practice, but its not really fascist. Nationalism is a tennet of Fascism, but its a very particular kind of nationalism. That's also where we get into the "its called communist" but actually is it in reality another authoritarian nationalistic state" argument Australia is,for me,an example of a very positive nationalism, very different to that favoured by many on the right in Europe..I find a lot of Aussies fiercely proud of their country, but its not in the "we (and our ethnicity)are better than you" way and its generally very inclusive and welcoming of people of many varying ethnicities coming to live there, and they have (very largely) successfully integrated heaps of people from all over the world over the past 40 years, which has enriched the country.

As you place so much store in political documents I guess you agree with every word. It's perfectly fine to protest the far right....I agree with that...but perhaps it's certain posters on this forum who have defended antifa as just 'anti fascist' who need to look at themselves. I will accept that with some of them they didn't really appreciate what antifa are.

I agree. There are some around who don't really understand the issues Edited by legaleagle (02 Sep 2017 11.44am) I have a lot of time for Orwell, but not for you and neither for this particular historian. The fact that this lefty writer attacks a right wing commentator over Orwell pretty much tells all. Watson isn't someone that I'd always agree with but he wasn't that far from accuracy with his contention in my view. Orwell, as a young man fought against a fascist government...Churchill also sent the country to war against fascists as well...Orwell and Churchill had little in common......So these bone-headed comparisons are just that...Antifa have no fascist government to fight. Orwell, warned against totalitarian regimes in general and attacked soviet communism in particular. While it is dangerous to talk for other people, I'd suggest that Orwell as a socialist would have little time for the excesses of Antifa.....the people who bash others over the head for different opinions.
