Well - I feel more sorry for him now.
He was bought by Pardew almost as soon as he arrived at the Club along with chong Lee.
Neither made us any better and it was AP "putting his stamp on the Club".
He then rarely played him and so Mutch found himself treading water.
I know he earns good money but i am also sure he wants to play football.
I hope we are able to at least loan him out for his sake

He is one of many footballers who signed lucrative contracts and will see them out whether they play or not.
In a years time he will leave for another club.
In the meantime he toes the line and gets paid.

And several players who wanted transfers have stayed this window Van Dyke,Mahrez,Coutino etc.

Pardew absolutely killed us in the transfer market.

Mutch, Lee, Wickham, Flamini, Adebayor, McCarthy, Mandanda all absolutely shocking buys.

Shameful, in fact.

Lee actually looked reasonable when he came on on Saturday, although we were dead and buried by then. I suspect de Boer might try and use him.

Wickham was decent until he got injured, a shame because he was actually finding some proper form.

Whilst Pardew may well have been the manager at the time how do you know that he bought those players as it could well have been Parish who bought them

I agree and at least he runs and tries to find space. He can also pass, probably not premier league standard but when your in the s*** try anything. I also agree about Wickham, unfortunately the injury is obviously worse that we thought and there is a possibility he wont come back from it.

Flamini and Adebayor low risk, McCarthy and Mandanda we got our money back I think?

Lee scored and set up a winner and was pretty low risk and is still looking occasionally useful. Mutch didn't work out.

I wouldn't actually be against Mutch being given a clean slate. He actually had a decent game at Stamford Bridge awhile ago, playing as a 'false 9', so maybe he might get another shot. Who knows.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

I think Mutch is a convenient scapegoat for some.

He's Champ mid table + standard. He's not that quick and not blessed with silky footwork. However, whenever I've seen him in a competitive match, he's used the ball at least as well as any other midfielder / held the ball up when needed / shown reasonable football savvy. He's also put tackles in, although maybe not with the work rate of someone like Jimmy Mac.

Overpriced and overpaid for sure, but I don't think he's the abject waste of space some make him out to be.

If Benteke gets injured (God forbid) them Mutch may well be his back up as I am struggling to see who else could play there until Wickham gets fit

Too true. Exception is Wickham who is a good player but injury cursed
