Who is Dom Fifield?

A two bit journo, as if his opinion counts. He is in the business of selling papers, not running a football club.

That was the plan, agreed with Allardyce, assuming that he was staying. Once he retired Parish said that there would need to be funds for a few signings for a new manager and, as a result, the Sakho deal was unlikely. We've ended up with the Allardyce scenario, but with de Boer as manager.

Spot on . We have the players, first 11 at least, to survive now , if we do not use a system that requires wing backs. Play to their strengths and we should be OK.
Anyway I will try and blot out what has gone before and pretend the season starts against Burnley.

A very well-respected journalist and a Palace fan.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

If it's only people that run football clubs that can have constructive opinions why on earth should we take any notice of you

He's one of the best journalists in the business. He is a Palace fan, has great Palace connections, and writes it as he sees it. And he doesn't make stuff up, as happens on other papers I could mention (e.g. S*n)

What's done is done. We may not agree with it but such is life. Let's hope we see a turnaround in our fortunes at Burnley which kickstarts our season

Think this falls into the "Must NOT lose" category.

Completely correct from Fifield.

The question isn't 'why change the style?' It's 'why change the style NOW?'

Especially if that style change involves going to a 3-4-3, which would require the recruitment of specialist wingbacks (by the way, I was pretty sure after Swansea that FDB would revert to a back 4 to save his job - I'm even more sure now that there's no RWB in the door).

My major concern is how much we will have to spend next summer if we stay up. Assuming we need to spend some money in January (10m/15m/20m), and our spending last January caused a knock on into this window, where does that leave us ? We have more players out of contract or entering their last year and 2 players on loan who could prove to be very important this season (TMF & RLC). The going rate for a decent player has been somewhere around 20m and we may need 5 or 6. Cabaye out of contract, Joel out of contract, McArthur out of contract, Wayne out of contract, Bakary Sako out of contract, Jules out, loans going back. Going to need some serious expenditure and we won't want to be leaving it until the last day of the window.
