Mods, lock this thread please. It’s going nowhere and has just got a loads of wallies talking s***e about a Palace player with a terrible injury.

Same old nonesense again mate, don’t even bother trying to give them the facts, the don’t listen because they know it all anyway. Hope none of them get a horrible injury at work then get treated how they want to treat Wickham.

if you stub your toe on the cabinet, it may hurt for 10 minutes. then you're fine. if CW does the same, he's in pain and icing for 2 hours. can't practice the next day. it's all in multiples of normal with him. he's on an injury that takes 9-12 months to heal. so look forward to his contributions in the 2019 season.

one question about this, do players have insurance for career threatening injuries? They cant all be like say Michael Owen and invest their wages in racehorses or houses

There is insurance in place but I have no idea whether the Club covers it as well as the Player - I suspect both

It hurts to say this but maybe we need to consider cancelling his contract. This man will forever be injured. If he ever gets back to full fitness we will probably only be able to play him once a month at best without risking another problem.

Good player when fit...but sadly it is not often enough.

The club can't cancel a contract because of injury, thankfully! They can pay up his contract but then why pay a player 2 years worth of salary when they may as well keep him on the books, he's an asset!

Furthermore I would guess as his injury happened while playing for the club they have an obligation to give him medical treatment for him to recover.

I hope you never have an injury at work and your employer just sacks you because you can't come to work.

Fair play to you for a sincere sentiment, but that sort of thing happens all the time. An employer can part company with an employee at any time and for any reason - incapability beingvone such reason. Obviously appropriate compensation then comes in to play, depending on the circumstances, and a workplace injury would be a likely area for compensation to apply.

But generally, employers have no obligation to keep on employing someone who can’t carry out their job.

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

With respect, that's bollocks. If you have a 3 year contract at work paying you an agreed amount weekly/monthly (footy players are paid monthly by the way, not weekly) and you then get an injury that prevents you from working then they still have to pay you regardless of whether you return to work or not, subject to doctors agreement , obviously.

Connor Wickham is 24, anyone who seriously thinks he's not bothered and is just sitting back taking his money without a care in the world needs their bumps felt. It must be very hard emotionally (regardless of how much he earns) to know his career is passing him by and possible over.

Jees, give the guy a break.

Connor must have been thinking of his future and should have made alternative plans by now in case he cannot continue.

He must be wealthy but of course it is disappointing.

Think how many footballers were on the scrap heap through injury in the past and yes they were out with nothing at all, it is not long ago.

Do you realistically think your employer will keep you on after 6 months, if that, you need them they don't need you.

If the Eagles and Wickham just got it together and issued a statement of the actual position then we would not need to enquire would we.

Good luck to Connor whatever.

If you've both signed a contract then they'd have no choice but to pay you until it expires, both sides are legally bound. If they could work some deal out to pay him off early then that would be a separate contract nullifying the first one.It works both ways, if CW had 3 years left on his contract, was scoring for fun and someone wanted him, we'd get serious wedge for him whereas if he had 6 months left we wouldn't. None of this applies to Jordon Mutch, obviously.

apologies if there's another thread. adder reporting he's working with the ball

[Link]

having looked at a few of his tweets (honouring the forces) and the fact his dad was in the army, I've come to the view Wickham maybe a sick note, but if he is, he's probably unfortunate to be. it probably isn't a lifestyle issue as some have implied now and then

If you want to live in a world full of kindness, respect and love, try to show these qualities.
