West Ham, Bournemouth, Brighton, Newcastle.

Look at our best 11 in its proper formation:

Hennessey

Fosu-Mensah Dann Sakho Van Aanholt

Milivojevic Cabaye

Zaha Loftus-Cheek Townsend

Benteke

That's a solid team.

Time will tell if it's a bad window. I'd like to hope it'll nudge Frank back towards a gradual transition of tactics rather than a blind plunge into the deep end.

Agreed.

Hennessey

Fosu-Mensah Tomkins Sakho Van Aanholt

Cabaye Miliojevic

Zaha Loftus-Cheek Townsend

Benteke

That is a great team. It doesn't work as 3-4-3, just doesn't have the personnel in the right positions. That team would laugh up the league as 4-5-1

No wonder you are part time james when you include Burnley and Stoke , BOTH will be COMFORTABLY above us , and so will the other 2 unless we get rid of FDB

I agree with most that on paper we should be better than lots. We also should be able to better over a whole season and not just 3 games but you do also have to look at the playing catch up scenario.

2 teams mentioned are Huddersfield and Swansea. So as a team planning for 40 points, we have to sit down and say okay, where can we get 6 of those 40 and of course that would be home games against Huddersfield and Swansea.

If the first 3 games were United, Chelsea and Liverpool, we could dust ourselves off now and crack on. The small silver lining is it has exposed De Boer and he may now only get 1 more game but had he lost against a big 3 then he could claim we would lose those anyway and to give him a chance against equal opposition.

Fact of the matter is though we can't keep going for the 'roller coaster' results. People always say oh we'll be alright, it's typical Palace, lose to Huddersfield but beat Liverpool.

Of course that didn't happen this season. Do you think another 3 points at home to Arsenal is likely 2 seasons in a row? I don't. How about taking 3 points home from Stamford Bridge again? It's a no from me.

So if you assume worst case but most realistic scenario of us getting nothing from either game against Tottenham, Chelsea, Arsenal, United, City, Liverpool then you start to realise actually we don't have that many games left to get to 40.

It's then you realise what a terrible handicap we've put ourselves in with our 2 home games so far this season. If we got a financial penalty and was told we'd start the season on -6 points, we wouldn't be optimistic of staying up but that is essentially what we have done thanks to Frank and the teams efforts against Huddersfield and Swansea.

I get your points , but it isn't like starting the season on -6 points as if we win our next game we could go to 15th, we aren't anywhere near 6 points away from the rest. Huddersfield at home was always a tough first game , would have fathered had them in January/February once they've been whacked 4 nil a few times.
Also it's not realistic that we won't get anything home or away against the top 6 , as that's never happened before. We are unlikely to beat all of the brightons, huddersfields etc home and away and we are unlikely to lose to all of the top 6.
We probably won't beat Chelsea away , but you'd have said that each of the last 3 seasons and we've won twice.
Couple of good results and we will be mid table , 3 or 4 loses on the bounce and it would look a bit different.
I reckon we will struggle again , but there's enough teams that will get less points than us. If the manager is sensible around the formation and doesn't persist with puncheon.

I agree that Stoke will probably finish above us, but Burnley arguably have a weaker squad than last season following the sales of Gray and Keane, and on paper our first XI is stronger (albeit the squad is thin). They managed a win against Chelsea, but they did only have 9 men on the pitch and Burnley still only won by one goal.

Even the so-called smaller clubs have made some big signings this season and if money talked you would expect to see Newcastle and Brighton struggling. Bournemouth will depend on whether signing experience pays off and I think they'll be flirting with the bottom end at the end of the season.

Personally I think West Ham will be fine.

I can't say I'm confident of a top 17 finish more hopeful!

Just think; if WHUFC hadn't signed the trusty England custodian, they might now be in an even worse state!

I think Newcastle and Brighton make up the bottom two and then the third relegation spot is between us, Huddersfield, West Ham and probably Burnley.

I fear for us this season.

Won't be popular for saying the following but Palace look the worst team at present. I can see the likes of Brighton and Newcastle scoring against us and yet can see where we can even buy a goal from. WAY too dependent upon Benteke and Zaha.

After the embarrassing debacle of the transfer window, I'd like to know everyone's thoughts on 3 teams who are worse than us.
I'd possibly say Brighton and maybe Newcastle, but that is being hopeful as they both have better managers in my opinion.

28m Defender. That's no embarrassing.

Embarrassing is Stern John on a one year, and Freddie Seers on loan, with you back up striker being Calvin Andrew.

Pick three from

West Ham (Worse than us)
Brighton
Newcastle
Huddersfield (good start, but its not about how you start, its where you finish and traditionally a new team starts fairly well and then is relegated once they get 'figured out').
Watford
Burnley

Some of these I think will be near or around us, but effectively are in roughly the same position in terms of quality and size.

Its still too early to tell - Rough diamonds come good, injuries take a toll and flash in the pans fade out etc.

Usually by end of October you have a better view of how things lie.
