This is ideal for teams like Palace, WBA and Fulham. At international level he would not have enough time with the players to drill them daily as he does in club sessions. At a bigger club he has to deal with better players and bigger egos and they may not take to doing the same things in training each day. yes exactly, wasn't given the time and patience his methods desire. No one can ever know if allowed to continue what he could have achieved at Liverpool and as England manager, Burnley could very easily have sacked Sean Dyche many years ago.

A lot of comment about what a poor job Hodgson did at Liverpool. To put into context what a basket case he took over there, he was followed by the messiah Dalglish who was allowed to spend 50M on strikers and then led them to their worst league finish in decades and was sacked one year into a three year deal.

Hodgson didn't Fit At Liverpool. I'm not sure he'd ever be a success there, these things happen. And I think his time at England was a good one. His qualifying and General play in them was good. He captitulated (spectacularily in his case) in the tournaments, so will ultimately be deemed a failure. even though this is hardly without precedent when England are concerned!

The FA has a track record of appointing crap managers, so what? There's a difference between being knocked out and crashing out. Venables, Robson, Ericsson didn't crash out.

I’m afraid we have a track record of bang average players, not managers. You could put Pep in charge of the England team and we would do no better in tournaments. You can argue against this all you like however we are simply not good enough. Although I am with you that I don’t think Roy was the greatest of England managers, he was let down very badly by the players in ‘that’ match.

Roy wasn't the greatest of England Managers ? And so what ?? Was Gareth Southgate an outstanding manager worthy of the England job ? I think not. The FA, much as I dislike them, are somewhat hamstrung if the criteria for the England Managers job is for somebody that has been successful at club level both domestically and internationally. Oh, and English. Blimey, even Pardew was being talked up a few years back. And they tend to go for the ' safe ' option from any contenders. There are some on this thread that are quite blatantly anti Hodgson. Debating the subject with them is not going to change their minds any more than I can be pursuaded that Roy isn't doing a decent job.

Hodgson wouldn’t fit at any club trying to compete to win anything, and top 4 is like winning something since it’s so competitive and there is a prize in where you finish looking up rather than looking down. He played cautiously at Liverpool and that’s not enough when you need to try and win 80% of your matches and then play with a bit more caution vs the top 6 sides. His football can be really boring at times and when you know it’s not working, he won’t do anything that match so you’ll have to wait till next week or the week after when what he’s doing usually does work, and that’s why he’s our manager and I accept it, however frustrating it is. We may even go on runs later on in the season but it doesn’t excite for the most part. That’s how we’ve roughly been just above relegation until recently.

This post has been merged from a topic called '7th best in prem' by Midlands Eagle maybe looking through red and blue tinted glasses but honestly believe that Roy has brought together a team that if we can hold on to AWB and buy BAT and have a fully fit Sakho should certainly be in top 10 and probably 7th best.Awful finishing has cost us dear and left us in the false position we find ourselves in at present.Stuff the weed tomorrow and with a home game against Huddersfield fears of relegation will be gone so please Roy lets go with top side for the cup.
