It's a pity therefore that despite repeating various defensive exercise routines to the extent that they should be second nature by now, the players still have no idea how to defend a corner or set piece.

Well, that's where the obedience over performance undermines him.

As someone who really likes Roy, I think it would have been best for him to retire on a high at the end of last season. This season of disappointing underperformance, where all too often we look like a soft touch rather than a team really intent on winning anything, is a sad way to go.

He needs to go at the end of the season but don't think he will fall on his sword or Parish will have the balls to replace him

Strongly agree with last two posts about underperformance and defensive instability from set pieces.
We have not been dogged by major injuries and have been able to field the same first choice back four up until Sakho’s injury a few weeks ago.
Roy is always claiming he is spoilt for choice in the midfield areas so he can’t use this as an excuse.
The long term injuries (Benteke and Wickham) were missing last season and have not contributed to the team for a while in any event.
Furthermore, they have both been more or less available since January and Roy has still elected not to use them.
I went to the first two games of the season and we looked a strong, purposeful team and I felt optimistic taking into account how we finished last season as well.
We’re a few points above the relegation zone and have gone out both cups with a whimper.
Roy has not been a disaster but I would dispute that he has done a good job this season.

If we end up in the Championship it'll happen

We took a long time to get over the loss of RLC and Cabaye - Meyer is only a bit part player and Kouyate took a while to settle - we are below mid table and above relegation - the top end of our expectation spectrum - the lowest is the same position in the championship. I'd give Roy another year then boot him upstairs, we've had some amazing results this year, but the home form has to be addressed. And we need an upgrade on McArthur for next season, and I don't think that player is Max Meyer sadly. Roy's done a good job here over all, don't forget this club has not gone through a year in the top flight without fear of relegation since 1992 - we've linked up really well in some games in others we're a bit flat, scrappy or predictable, Roy gets 6 and a half out of ten from me, the negative points here are valid but a bit too heavy, Roy is not doing nor has he done a bad job here, far from it.

The biggest problem with getting a new manager is who would we get in?

With our track record and the fact we got burnt so badly with FDB, the only managers left that we are likely to hire are David Moyes or Mark Hughes and this terrifies me! I don't think we'd be brave enough to gamble on someone untested in the league.

We've under performed this year and Roy's lack of subs and unwillingness to break his loyalty to certain players is frustrating but I still think he's the best man for the job.

i actually think david moyes would be a good fit for palace.

cant see mark hughes getting another top flight gig unless he gets a team promoted.

lets just get jose in when roy retires.

What about Sean Dyche? He wanted the job badly couple of seasons ago but we blanked him for FDB. Burnley are struggling big time, he might have had enough and looking for a change in the summer.
