Hodgson is an exceptional half manager.

But he is only a half manager.

He has figured out how to get us really firing away from home with the time and space afforded to us by teams who don’t sit in against the likes of palace at their place.

However, at home, we are shocking. We are woeful, timid, gutless and negative.

We will stay up year after year with Hodgson but the galling thing is if he just had some balls to have a go in some games, particularly at home, we could be top 8.

Cue all the responses of “we would get relegated if he was less cautious etc etc”.

Yep. Hodgson and Parish are reactive and will never be proactive, and after the FDB debacle it’s probably just as well if everything isn’t in place to help it work.

Roy Hodgson a decent man doing a better than decent job of managing Palace,I hope he stays for a very long time,we have chopped and changed a lot In the past and It simply doesn't work.

Agree completely. Roy is a decent and dignified man who reflects well on the club. We had the excitement of the Big Mal years and I know what I prefer.

After Øzils equalizer in 47th min, the second half must have felt the longest in Hodgson's life! Even adding 5 minutes "Fergie time".
Well done everybody - it was a typical Palace victory. F...k the possession, hit them on the break - we could (and Benteke should) have scored 2 or 3 more!
Welcome Silva's Everton next week, an other if form team.

Proved again today that he can get the best out of them. I think this is still about stabilising the club in the prem at the moment number 1 and he’s a solid man for that. He’s got experience coming out of his ears and gets enough right. There’s been few bad runs of bad form apart from at the start. The disappointment has been the first half performances at home, when we get into a rhythm it’s been good viewing but slow coming. He has to get us more on it and develop Meyers influence and the range of the squad and overall tactics.

Roy has gained us two more seasons in the Premier league.
Given our record before this spate of being in the Premier League and the position and our position in the Premier league when he took over it is remarkable what he has achieved.
Don't forget we are still recovering from the madness of the first season of promotion when we bought anyone and everyone and survived with the team we came up with. Survived thanks to Pulls and Sam two seasons and our unfortunate attempt at stability was with Pardew.

In platoon, there was a famous quote about Sgt Barnes.

"The only thing than can kill Barnes, is Barnes".

I think you know where I am going with this.

Parish is not sacking Hodgson, ever. If it goes tits up next year he will be allowed to retire gracefully (probably once its too late to avoid the drop knowing Parish).

Well, actually, knowing Parish, probably in time to avoid the drop. Your statement is simply not true, my friend.

The Arsenal result was yet another example of the manager working with limited materials but getting the job done I'll explain:
People on here winge that the 'team' doesn't score enough goals from set pieces, and the manager is to blame for lack of practice, how the hell they know that I cannot tell but anyway. Benteke comes in, fit again, and Dann plays because our ball-playing, creative centre-halves are injured. Low and behold we score three at Arsenal from set-pieces. Yes we hear, under Pulis we were lethal at corners, Roy must be doing something wrong. No, Delaney and Dann were lethal, not Pulis.

On the whole, Roy is getting the best from the material that he has, making up for our lack of creative midfielders, our relatively weak forwards, employing a variety of tactics to engineer the results we need. Yes our home results have been poor but we have had proportionately more bad luck at home and achieved some undeserved results away that skews the statistics somewhat.

The push-on I want next year is points against Brighton and Watford. If we can keep the team together and add maybe a creative midfielder and a left-back we could look forward to an even better season next year under Hodgson's management.

Holloway had to beg to be fired and Pardew went about 6 months too late.

FDB didnt exactly swing the pendulum back the other way.

Fair play to him.
He got it right today.

But I can't resist saying... If we are good enough to beat Man City and Arsenal away, take a point from Old Trafford.... Why can't we do better at home?

Is this getting like Alan Smith where we ask why he can't motivate the team against poor oposition?

Because very simply after all of this time the manager has not figured out how to set us up to succeed at home.

When teams come to Selhurst and keep it tight, he is not flexible enough to make the necessary changes to system and personnel.

Hodgson is a hell of a manager, as long as we are playing away.

Who would be a season ticket holder eh

And in neither season were Palace relegated.
And FDB wsa sacked in time to avoid relegation.
So, not too late to avoid relegation.

No argument to be had here.

Absolute LOL to the Holloway comment.

Seriously though, you do good & Parish does show loyalty - it's an admirable quality in industry short of integrity.

Holloway got us promoted (more by luck than judgement maybe) & even the appalling Pardew started well.

FdB had no credit in the bank.
