Do you remember 97/98 season? Our first home win in late April, nothing will ever be as bad as that season for many reasons.

We had hope that the new chairman would come in and make up great the next season.

And constant drama.

I think what is particularly galling is the money, both in how much we've had since we've been in the PL and how how much these players actually earn. It raises expectation and some of these players just ain't good enough.

Nine times out of ten this season at home we've looked like the away team, which to be honest really gets on my tits, its not what I pay £1200 per season for.

Unforced errors by not being able to pass the ball is outrageous for the money these guys are paid. I feel sorry for supporters that have to travel miles to get to Selhurst to watch the quality of football we've seen at home most of this season.

Everton was the game for Roy to play Wilf and Andros on the wings and tekkers and either Sako/Bats as two strikers, and just have a freaking go from the off and give the crowd something to shout about. I wouldn't have given a monkey's if we'd lost but had a right go but we wimped out again which really pisses me off.

If Sakho, AWB and Wilf want to go then maybe they should, only problem is I don't think we have a very good scouting system and some of our recent transfer dealings have been abysmal...tough times ahead I fear.

Agree with this last post 100% and most of the fans I speak to concur.

What these sort of comments overlook is that every other team in the PL also gets shed loads of money, in many cases more than Palace. They also have eleven highly paid players on the pitch, in many cases on salaries that are considerably higher than our players are on. Errors may seem 'unforced' but actually our players on Saturday were often being hounded by one, two or even three Everton players and tried to pick a pass to a team mate who was immediately similarly hounded. Sometimes I think you just have to admit that their players were better than ours.

Personally I think we'd have been wiped out if we'd played the way you suggest and for my part I doubt that 'giving it a go' compensates for losing by a heavy margin.

Just my opinion.

Personally speaking this summer is a pivotal time for us .Lots of uncertainty ie Americans doing a runner ! Ground needs updating ! Manager on last legs ! Wilf ,Wan Basaka could be on way out ! We need to be getting sorted early doors otherwise we are in deep trouble next season. In a nutshell we need a rich owner/consortium to take us to the next level .Steve Parish has done brilliant but we need someone to take us to the next level as we have become static . .

Their players were better or their tactics were better? Hounding players has got nothing to do with ability, it’s down to fitness and instruction. We don’t hound players because Roy believes in sitting off the opposition and staying ‘in shape’ . Everton are trying to play the modern way as per Liverpool, Spurs and Citeh.

Agree with this. We don't press further up the pitch. RH's game plan is to sit deep, keep shape, and narrow angles in behind, which cedes territory and explains why our possession stats are low. RH sends the players out with these instructions irrespective of the calibre of the opposition, which suggests to me that he is one-dimensional and inflexible in his tactical approach.

If you’re suggesting Wilf and Andros wide in a 442 with two centre forwards poor at linking the play up that’s hardly having a go.

If 424 then I think Everton would have torn us apart and everyone would be branding Roy an idiot.

Townsend has been poor for a while and he was rightly rested against Arsenal

Yes 442 is exactly what I was suggesting, and we would have had more of a go with that formation than zero shots on target like what we had. Benteke wins more headers that most people realise but he needs someone along side him, hence Roy playing Wilf as a striker but he also needs crosses coming in. We should be playing round pegs in round holes…

I also think we made Everton look good because we were too compact. Our players aren't good enough to play crisp sharp short passes (triangle football) in crowded areas, they need a bit of extra "forgiving" space to get their passes in (as at the mo we're pretty bad at ball retention) which would have meant that the scousers wouldn’t have been able to get two or three of their players straight on to us to close us down.

After the first five minutes Dann nearly cost us three times by poor back or across our own 18 yrd box passes. A number of times AWB was in acres on the right and SD still played the ball into a heavily congested area where we were already getting no joy…complete madness.

We got away with it Saturday, should have been at least 0-3 to Everton if we're honest with ourselves

I remember it well - but at least we tried to win games then, even if we didn't succeed!

No, I'd personally keep him because of his experience and knowledge, young managers is exactly want we don't want, If a had to make a change of sorts I'd bring Freedman down to work alongside him, he has learnt the hard way that being too ambitious without the experience results in disaster especially with blocked funds ..and it will save us dosh wasting again.

When i say "younger Manager" i don't mean someone in there first job as a manager, but someone who is around 20 or so younger than 70.

Clearly we do have first team squad/players who are poor quality and would probably struggle in the championship. However we have to be pragmatic as we need PL revenue therefore Roy's tactics are limited by the talent he has to work with, most of the cards he has had dealt are not of his own choosing. Grinding out results is not very attractive but a necessary evil if we are to maintain our PL status. Player wages are agreed by SP who has been largely if not completely responsible for the current first team squad. If we played Pardew type football with the players we have we would soon be back in the championship and I for one would not be happy with that!
