I like Kouyate in the side.
Provides physicality in midfield and makes penetrating runs forward both with and without the ball.Plays with his head up and likes to open up his body and run at opponents.
He filled-in at centre-half at W.Ham when they had injuries.
I recall speaking to someone about Kouyate when he was at W.Ham - he told me that in his opinion he wasn't the finished article but that was probably about 5 years ago.

So what was it that held up his development for 5 years. just saying, don't take it serious.

I don’t want to divert this thread because this has happened on this subject before, but, Hodgson beat all the cr@ppy countries in qualifiers and then when it came to anyone half decent, or Iceland ffs, not a flaming clue. Kane at corners LAUGH OUT LOUD.

Hodgson is not a big team manager but he’s a safe pair of hands for our size. But please don’t fool yourself he’s maximising our chances of cup or attractiveness progress if you like. Same tactics all the time. At first we thought it was because he had no choice. Wrong. No subs or in game management vs the opposition and their manager.

I accept Roy as manager but it isn’t progressive, entertaining or something you look forward to. It’s a chore during a time we need to stay in the league to get the stand done, but if it isn’t done it’ll seem like a waste all round.

You're right Rudi, his record at England and Liverpool definitely suggests he's not really a manager suited to the very highest level. Also didn't have the best time at Inter either.

But I would argue that he's perhaps a bit better than you're making out here. I think he's better than simply a 'safe pair of hands'. We've played some great football at times, particularly away. Our away record this season is amazing. I would say home performances on the whole have been better than results suggest. Home defeats to Brighton and Watford don't help perception though, and some games like at home to Chelsea really were frustrating.

Towards the end of last season, when we had RLC, some of our home games were great e.g 5-0 demolition of Leicester. I think this highlights that when he has the right blend of players at his disposal he can get his teams playing attractive, attacking football.

I would also point to his time at Fulham. He arrived when they were really struggling, made a few good signings, and then guided them to 7th. And then to the final of the Europa league the following season. They played some great football. Not bad for a 'safe pair of hands'

He hasn't particularly been backed in the transfer market since arriving, apart from Max, so he's done what he's done with the same squad that he inherited plus a couple of loans.

If (and I guess that's a big IF) he sticks around for another couple of seasons, I'm hopeful that we can do more than just survive.

Yes some fair points I’m well aware of. It’s just how many times I’ve watched at Selhurst and seen Roy not utilise the bench or divert from plan A and settle for the 0-1 home loss.

I completely understand why he’s here, and I don’t want him out, unless of course Parish has someone marvellous lined up, which will never happen. It’s just frustrating watching 60-70 minutes of football you know what will happen. Nothing.

My take on Hodgson is that he is a percentage manager. He has found a formula that works more often than not and he believes in that and sticks to it.

Occasionally it is annoying as we should roll over lesser sides and we don't always do. However on balance he has brought stability and a system and that the players appear to believe in.

When I was a manager I appreciated the people who turned up on time and put in a shift. I was never a fan of the lone maverick who disappears when you need them and every now and then does something great. I suspect that is how Roy manages the team he will forgive a player within reason if they put in a shift and play within the system as he has asked them.

It is to his credit that he is also able to accommodate a mercurial talent like Zaha.

Overall he has been a positive for Palace.

Is he having any input in the transfer signings, never really comments, or transfer policy for the last 3 years has been pathetic, if Derby dont win promotion, Frank Lampard could be a good choice, if change is needed

How many of us are having a change of heart with regards to Roy? Have to say personally up until relatively recently I was in the camp of I would probably like to see a change. The home form has been abysmal, it’s been a tough watch at Selhurst all season. The subs thing and his unwillingness to change bugs me.. but what you can’t do is argue with the final result. Our points tally and league position is a very good achievement. Yet it could have been much more.. He can certainly be considered a safe pair of hands. Yesterday was encouraging. He’s got to be given next season.

Never an issue for me. We’re fortunate to have him and I hope he stays.

Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

my worry is that with Zaha and others likely leaving in the summer, we will have a decent amount of money to spend, the sort money that should shape the first 11 for the next few years. I just don't trust Roy to invest it in the sort of talent that is going to move us on as a football club. He's with us for one more year so that's as far as he's planning.

I like how you begin your insightful post with you like him yet state that it doesn’t matter what palace fans think of him.

Ultimately Parish and Freedman dictate who is coming in and they are going to be at the club for longer than Roy.

Roy still puts his wants in to those two
