Lots of talk before about looking at the Bournemouth model but we are currently behind them and could finish top. Roy's biggest mistakes this season were losing to Brighton. If we'd of won both those games then they'd be comfortably 3rd from bottom and we'd be squabbling about why we're not fighting for a top 4 place!

I just don't think the facts bear you out, unless I misunderstand what you mean by the script. PVA has gone missing many times this season and never gets dropped. AWB went missing for Watford's second goal and didn't get dropped. Who do you think got dropped for not doing as he was told? I do agree that Roy likes to play a specific shape and wants players to fit into that (and most of ours do perchance) but that seems to be the case with a lot of managers. Difference for me is that better quality players can adapt to a managers style and I think many of ours are lacking in that respect.

We did defending v Brighton and did v Huddersfield bringing the ball out and passing to Bissaka unmarked after Dann passed to the opposition 15 yards further up the field. I’ll go further with this and say a small amount of big players or signings hide the inadequate way the club is handled and because they cost so much, therein has been part of the problem.

I completely agree that underperforming players are being picked: they are picked because they stick to his tactics (script) rigidly. To Roy, obedience is more important than performance.

I was referring to this season where we find ourselves 8pts clear (almost 9 if you count GD) with 7 games remaining. As in, if Roy went now, we wouldn't go down this season. But to clarify: I think it's worth sticking with Roy, since our board have really made some questionable decisions with managers (before then getting it right after an expensive rebuild/pay off). That sounds like damning with faint praise, but I think a mid-table finish this season and a quarter final in the FA Cup would probably have been taken by most fans in advance. I hope we can progress on that next season, but midtable + cup run remains a solid goal for next season. As for next season, I really think it depends, as you say, whether we can get our transfer policy right. Our squad is decent but we still haven't fully solved our striker problem (Batshuayi is only a loanee after all), we haven't quite adequately replaced RLC and Cabaye (as strong as our midfield can be on a good day) and we are a bit thin in some areas. One place where we seem solid is at the back, with 4 decent CBs when everyone is fit. Even then, we lose AWB we are down to Ward (who is a great servant to the club and a good stand-in but he isn't a long-term solution). The other side is a strange one too, with Schlupp preferred in midfield. We have been unlucky for a number of seasons in that we haven't had a chance to consistently play our best XI for a run of games due to injuries. This year, we only had a strikeforce by the end of January. I think this has had a knock-on effect on Roy knowing his best team (and exposes some transfer failings). If we signed Batshuayi and kept Benteke and Wickham and got them both fully fit, that would be a half-decent strikeforce, with big signings balanced with depth. Those, however, are some big ifs. I have faith in Meyer but he hasn't QUITE hacked it yet... perhaps some work in pre-season to see how we can balance his lack of physicality with his undeniable talent.
