What is it with us and goalkeepers?? Whats wrong with our current 2? They've generally done well this season. The only bad occasion was when Jules played.

At home the dilemma we have to overcome is about our completion from dead-ball situations on a positive note and our tendency to make a defensive mistake from a negative note.

The way many other teams score against a defensive minded opponent is to score first from a corner or free-kick and open the game up. With our preferred first team, no Dann, no off-form Benteke, Milo our best dead ball option, our team is incapable of benefiting from the corners and free-kicks you gain with ball and territory.
Can we buy the solution?

Defensively we are losing the first goal regularly through silly mistakes. Can we coach this out? Do we need to move on from PVA, perhaps Sakho , goalkeepers?

Until we sort those things out our home results will continue to be poor.

Why can’t so many palace supporters see how good Sakho is. By far our best defender, AWB included.

Vive le Roy!

Mind you, I'm not so sure; AWB is just top class. I saw Sansom's debut but I think this lad is better.

As far as central defenders go, I love Sahko. Quite apart from his defensive skill, he shows such tenacity - a real Palace man.

Well, this is the Roy Hodgson thread and this summer will be a fantastic opportunity to put together the team that he wants. He can sell to buy if he wants to with numerous permutations on offer.

We have 4 valuable players we could sell in my opinion, Zaha, AWB, Sakho, Milivojevic but will Roy sell any or keep all of them? We don’t have a huge amount of deadwood left but we have players in on loan in Sako, Ayew and players who are getting near the end of their careers in Ward, Dann and McArthur. We have our suspect left back who can be quite brilliant but also shockingly awful and his constantly injured understudy in Souare and we also have our youngsters with potential for value in Meyer and Reidewald. We have other solid pros in Townsend, Kouyate, Kelly, Schlupp and Tomkins. We have 2 decent goalkeepers to choose from and a youngster coming through and finally we have our strikers in Benteke, Sorloth and Wickham who have value but do any of them fit into Roy’s plans.

Some refer to SP bring a skinflint and we are all aware of the state of the accounts, so does Roy get backed in this window with or without sales? Is Roy interested in building a new team or is he happy to plod along with what he has got?

I can see us staying up with the team we have with no changes, however if Roy has any serious ambition left to put together a team of his own before he retires then this summer has to be the moment.

We only have two goalkeepers, we need three, Jules was great in his day but alas he is now too old and should move over to goalkeeper coaching and open the door for a younger player!

Not to mention his calmness on the ball. Retaining possession when the balls won back and starting attacks is a lot easier when he's on the field.

I would add our stand in CBs have been brilliant defensively in fairness.

I thought we bought a new young keeper with the expectation that he would become our number 3 if Wayne stays.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark... and we're wearing sunglasses.

I agree that Sakho is very good and is the main man for bringing the ball out of defence. However he has a mistake in him nearly every game and he is useless on our attacking corners. How many goals, chances made? This also makes me wonder whether he is really any good in the air? It's a dilemma and why I said only maybe we needed to change.

Just to add for balance, Sakho is brilliant at blocking shots, tackles well and has a good turn of pace.

We could always bring on Dann or Kelly when his concentration fades.

I wouldn’t see the core of the team. We’ve already started offloading a lot of the expensive deadwood. Not sure how much I’d trust Roy in the transfer market.

We’ve really missed Sakho during this recent injury, which tells us everything, but you’re right about attacking corners. Sakho may as well take them.
