As it turns out the Southampton fans seem ready to get rid of Pellegrino already as well! I remember some people suggesting these two managers went to the wrong clubs and that de Boer was more suited to Southampton and Pellegrino to Palace. Maybe we can do a swap now and find out?

Yes I said it while we were waiting for them to make their minds up whilst ignoring dyche because he's a bit gravelly and eats chips and gravy.

Me and Bexleydave were dismissed as depressing, negative etc etc. I could've done this better than parish. Just pay me for advice when faced with a handful of potential managers and save the club £6 million. The other successful ones were out of work/wanted the job. Whenever that's not the case parish has made a mess of it. Great businessman. Not very logical with football in mind, even with the Frank BS interview smiles and lies fed to him.

A lot of them aren't good enough though - and we've known it for ages. Just look at the player ratings and comments for the last season and a half and most of us have known our lot aren't good enough at this level. I had hoped the idea of bringing in FdB was to improve us tecnically - well I'm sorry, that takes time. Part of our due diligence should have included the question are we good enough for a coach like FdB.

I think this is an on going issue. I also feel that FdB did not have the skills to 'improve us technically'. If most of the comments re this issue are right we should see our team come out on saturday with all guns blazing.

Assuming they bring in an 'old school' British manager, I wonder what their thoughts are on working with a DoF? We know that most don't like it.

The dates on Dougie's P45 will be even shorter!

With age comes wisdom and I can't really see Hodgson (if he is appointed) having any problems with the current set up. A good person-manager knows not only how to manage the troops, but also how to deal with colleagues and senior management without making waves.

Every owner wants managers who are competent at doing the job they were employed for and to do it without causing a myriad of problems that require those at the top to intervene. That's the part of the job that Frank failed to understand.

It's difficult for me to comment as I don't know who is talking to the media about what. Whilst I have made no secret of my belief that SP has his faults (his frequently glacial decision making process being the main one) I don't see him as a Machiavellian character who manipulates situations to his own advantage. In fact, he's more inclined to take criticism on the chin and respond to his critics quite robustly. I could make a case, both for and against, with respect to his part in our managerial revolving door, but without resorting to the "remember who saved us" nonsense I do think we would be in a worse place if he wasn't still at the helm.

As someone else said - players cannot be allowed to wield all of the power and nor should they be allowed to be prima donnas either but the squad needs to be a close knit team of people working together for the good of the emplyer and the fans.
Man management is a major skill required by any Manager - knowing that different people need different treatment and if FDB was unable to see that then maybe it is for the best.
Pardew was the same and that caused issues as well.
Sam and Pulis created a camaraderie and that is what we need.
Can Hodgson do that - who knows?
I would say though that he doesn't inspire me on the face of it and we will need that as well.

Well 24 hours on from asking the question it would appear that there was a lot going on in the background
A manager who had tunnel vision on playing style with no man management skill or regard for the gravity of losing matches.
Players that did not like being told they were not good enough for the managers style.
Player power.
Poorly thought out transfer window.
Complete distrust between management , players and board.
Any objective can only be achieved by everybody pulling in the same direction at the same time with the same purpose.
Frank de Boar became the seed that made sure that was never going to happen. Result He Had To Go.
What follows none of us knows but we can all hope!

It appears that there are a number of facets at play here, which ultimately contributed in FdB getting the boot and the ensuing confusion as to what actually happened.

1) FdB's attitutde towards players
2) Player Power
3) SP's inability to keep off of social media when he needs to

Whilst I'm all for a Manager to stamp his own authority on a club and with the squad, to upset the apple cart quite so quickly (if what's been reported is to be believed) is something of a triumph.

It appears that FdB was/is intent to live off of his playing reputation to force his ideals (however merited) on to a team to get them playing his way.

This is twice now that he has upset a squad within a short period and twice now that he has been shown the door.

I hope for his sake that he drops his ego and learns from this mistake as it's ok to act this way in a club that molded you with that mentality, subsequently allowing you to work with players in that style (as in Ajax); but another entirely to try and force that on other clubs in other countries.

Managing is as much about building relationships with players as it is coaching them and developing their skill sets.

As for Player Power...I'm a little concerned that SP is too close to a number of players, who seem to have running to him when they get upset.

To be fair to FdB, telling Ward and Damo that they weren't good enough is pretty much what us on the boards have been saying for 12months...the truth is hard to take, but again its not what you say its the way you say it.

However, for players to then go to the Chairman in order to oust the Manager and for Parish to then (seemingly) act on their behest shows he is too close to the squad. We've already seen that he has a fair amount of sentiment (we saw that we Jonniesta getting yet another contract) and I accept that he, like us is a fan first and foremost. But he needs to distance himself now from the day to day squad issues, concentrating on the Club's infrastructure and plans for progression. Perhaps that's why DF is now in as DoF?

Finally SP and Social Media; he needs to know when to go on it and when to simply turn the phone off.

Part of what makes SP special and someone to be treasured is that he DOES interact with us, but in the last few days his tweets have caused confusion around the situation when mentioning we need to stick together before then sacking FdB within 12hrs.

This confusion has led to further unnecessary interaction with Trolls etc. who are all over the situation due to the lack of clear thought and direction..just what the fans and club needs at a time like this from its Chairman.

All in all its been a pretty unedifying 36hrs for the club and it'd be wrong to blame any one individual...it appears that there were a number of contributors that have led to the current situation but now is the time to move on, as always and support the eleven that take the pitch.

I just hope that the experiences of the last few days have given SP food for thought and that lessons are learned preventing this from happening again.

By the way I now realize Henry Winter was being ironic about FdB having a sense of humour. I think I saw him smile once in all his filmed appearances. Man management is not easy but it is very far from impossible and to publicly state his players lack courage is a prime example of his ineptitude to run a team.

Delaney appears to be a bit of a trouble maker as he has made known in the past that he didn't like certain players including Glen Murray and it wouldn't surprise me if he was the team's shop steward.

Kelly apparently didn't like being told that he wasn't good enough but that's something that most HOLers have been saying for ages and reading between the lines de Boer would have unloaded him in the transfer window but Parish interfered and wouldn't sell him.

Ward allegedly didn't like being told to sit out a training session so that he could watch from the sidelines how a wingback should play. The only word that springs to mind is "diddums"

de Boer was supposed to be a football club manager not a nursemaid to highly paid prima donnas so Parish needs to make sure that the job specification for the new manager includes the fact that the person needs to be an experienced mummy

this is why we will never advance as a club because we will only employ caretaker managers who make the best of what we have for a short time, rather than challenging the status quo and employing new methods. Anyone who wants a new manager sacked after 3 games cannot go on to moan about only ever being a side that narrowly avoids relegation each season and always looks down the table rather than up.

Maybe not behind the scenes, but I thought the press build up and coverage from over a week before FbD was sacked was OTT and added to the pressure of all involved.

Its almost as if the press had made up their minds he was going to be the first manager sacked before a ball was kicked this season and ramped up the pressure to almost make it happen.

West Ham and Bournemouth both had similar records this season and have spent many £m more than us in the summer yet the hysteria only seems to have revolved around Palace.
