TFM is a centre-half by trade in terms of his youth career but I believe Man Utd used him at right-back in the first team.

Off topic slightly but Schlupps total lack of positional sense was the main cause of their goal yesterday. All their dangerous attacks came from the right wing not the left where Redmond,a pretty good winger wasn't getting much joy against JW.
Ward granted is not the best but is not as bad as a lot of you make him out to be.
NOBODY played at all well yesterday not just two people.

Ward used to be 1 of my favourite players but over the past 2 years he has been poor a bit like Puncheon & both shouldn't be in the team anymore.

Teams target him which I can totally understand because he is a weak link in our team, however so is left back position even though we spent over £20m in that area in Jan!

Ward is a good old fashioned right back but in the modern game he isn't quick enough & his distribution is very poor especially his crossing. These days a full back needs to be like a winger who can defend but he can't dribble, lacks pace & his crossing is very poor.

After Woy has drilled the defence a bit like Fat Sam did & Sahko is fit we will be far more solid at the back but it won't happen over night & I think it will take at least a month to see the benefits.

I really hope Woy will replace Ward with TMF in the near future because he has more of the attributes needed to be a modern day fullback.

with a midfield three of

.................Luka................
.....Loftus-Cheek.....Cabaye.....

And if we're playing away i think put Jairo in alongside Luka and drop Cabaye to the bench........

Totally agree. Although I'd give the captaincy to Luka or Wilf. I'd also drop Punch, another liability! I hope the club cleans out the deadwood in the January window. Just hope Roy the same foresight as we do.

100% agree, just wonder what Ward & Punch are doing on the training field to warrant them place in starting line-up every matchday?

i bet if i sat there watching one player i could find a million faults, each player in our team has major faults but we seem to be looking at 1 position, across the back we have looked uncomfortable even when sam was in charge as we lost silly games under him and alot was LB problems which hasnt gone away either it wasnt JW who stands there ball watching when crosses comes in from both sides so give the guy a break

Him and Schlupp both shocking today.

Schlupp cant seem to string two performances together. Everytime he has a good game he follows it up with a mare and PvA comes in to do the exact same.

Souare isnt much difference. Between the three of them we can scrape together an LB

Because Puncheon was not helping Schlupp,he had two players attacking him.

Name me one other PL team where he would start ahead of their current RB.........

I don't get the anti Joel Ward brigade. Been a steady and reliable player for us for years and continues to be. Very experienced defender and rarely puts a foot wrong. He's been played out of position often at LB in the past and under FDB at RWB, you can't blame someone for not performing to their best in an unfamiliar position - that's the managers fault for putting him there.

TFM is clearly more of a CB than an RB which is why he is playing at CB. I'm sure a recently read that no other outfield player played more minutes than Ward last season in the Premier League- that stat speaks for itself.

Ward will continue to play at RB under Hodgson because he's our best player there. All our previous managers have also agreed. There are far bigger problems with our squad than this.

I thought both fullbacks were terrible on Saturday - Ward was largely in the right place doing the wrong thing, and Schlupp seemed to have no positional awareness whatsoever (almost like he doesn't know how to play left back).

Midfield seemed to sit far too deep and just let Southampton have the ball - whether that was a tactical decision by Roy or total lack of confidence I don't know

This is the premier league ffs, not some mickey mouse european country 3rd division league. All players in this league should be positionally aware, be able to read the game, be able to pass, to cross and to have a bit of pace. If you don't then you should not be in this league...simples. PS: I am afraid that on that selection basis we have quite a few that should not be in this league.
