I recall the ice rink from byone days with the 'Bali Hai' club upstairs.

That was in a sorry state when I saw a feature on it on London news tv.

I think you are saying that you were in an advanced state of refreshment.

I lived in Bexley but I've a vague recollection of a Youth Club trip on a Saturday night to Streatham ice rink, where at some point the public session came to an end while the rink was prepared for an ice hockey match later in the evening. Even as I type it it seems unlikely, so can anyone verify this? It would have been circa 1972, 73

Palace since 19 August 1972. Palace 1 (Tony Taylor) Liverpool 1 (Emlyn Hughes)

I used to live not so far from Norbury Park in the 60s. Never heard it called by that name.
I recall walking on that narrow patch which stretched from the opening at the Green Lane end to the other end of the park just near the Police station.
And Syd the park keeper who used to stop lads playing on the football pitches !

I love a bit of ice hockey, and used to watch Romford raiders until the rink closed and they now play at lea valley , however the brand new rink in the central Romford is coming along nicely, so the raiders should be back home next season.

That's good news. Love a bit of hockey and am toying with the idea of watching Chelmsford this season.

In bygone days I think some who played ice hockey at the ice rink played 'Grice hockey' at Norbury Park and at other places.Used to be a Grice hockey league with teams from South London and Brighton. There was a very good team called 'Streatham Rangers'.

I trace the decline of England as a football force back to Syd of Norbury Park stopping lads playing on the football pitches. Now look at us!

Never called it that but the park did used to be a golf course so makes sense.

I recall the clubhouse which wasn't very big at all.Think it was slighly raised so one had to walk down a small grass slope to get to the pitches.

Syd used to come stomping out of here and marching purposefully towards lads playing in the goalmouths !
