If and when Punch is dropped, he'll still be club captain. Whoever gets the armband when that happens isn't really a big deal.

Some people need to wear an armband to be leaders, others just ARE. It seems to me that Mama inspires just by running onto the pitch, and doesn't need anything more. Captain is largely symbolic and entails basically tossing the coin and shaking hands.

As mentioned in the opening post, Sakho leads by nature and was captain in all but name anway. So it's not an issue. If players were arrogant enough not to listen if he doesn't have the armband then it's an issue but that's not the case. The only thing It could possibly do is upset the Puncheon camp (whether that's just him or if there are a few players that want him as captain) at a time we badly need a united front with everyone related to the club. However, a lot of Managers have the Louis Van Gaal mentality that Captain, regardless of form needs to be first name on the team sheet. This held United back for years and it took a massively strong personality in Mourinho to bench him and move them forward. Even then, Mourinho had to publicly say Rooney is still a star player and is his captain and he loves him blah blah blah. That's what Roy needs to be strong enough to do. If he handles it amicably and says Puncheon's our best player in interviews but ultimately doesn't play him then I don't care what lip service he's paying forward or if he's given 'club captain' status. However, I don't think Roy is strong enough and Punch will start all our Prem games this season. Hope I'm wrong.

Think it was the Swansea game where we had a free kick just outside the box. Cabaye picked the ball up but puncheon told townsend to take it. They both ignored him and cabaye took it....
