If they want to drive a cab in London ,do the knowledge and undergo the stress of appearances, Mind you appearances would be difficult as most of them can't speak English , f*** them

They'll win the appeal.

Which is why private car hire exists.

Never used uber and doubt I ever will but last time I got a black cab it cost me £22 to get from kennington to Stteatham at 7am. with nothing on the road. A private cab is half that and driving my own car even with the congestion charge would have been cheaper.

Without government protection/laws, black cabs would have been finished long ago.

I do like to support the black cabbie in general but I just don't like wasting money.

As for uber, terrible company. Can't support them.

Uber seems to be another one of these companies where people who haven't used it love to complain about how nasty it is.

I can't see what the issue is, when you book it you get a price up front, you can see who your driver is, their photo, taxi license number, and licence plate number. No cash changes hands, the journey is mapped, other people can track it, then at the end of the journey you get to give feedback about both the driver and the passenger.

With black cabs you have to hope one comes past, they might not take you to where you want to go, they might run you round the houses, you have to listen to them bang on about something, and they are expensive.

Mini-cab companies take ages to turn up, every time you ring them they always say they'll be there in 15 minutes. Drivers try and bump up the fares and the cars are often dumps.

That's not to say all black cab drivers and mini cabs are bad. The majority are great, but uber is better.

Just another sign of this country hurtling back towards the dark ages.

I think he's referring to drivers of black cabs. Not cab drivers of African descent

Nice idea, but it's still just an idea.

A positive that may come out of this is that it could open the door to more completion to uber.

It seems like the collective group that the link is calling for would still be effectively run by TfL, which could still result in monopoly fares and too much government interference.

In Jersey the taxi drivers are crap. Recently a Facebook group started by a bunch of teenagers offering lifts for a bit of petrol money plus a few quid. It's a great system and has about 10,000 members. Sadly, it would work with the levels of crime and dishonesty you get in big cities.

Exactly. Tapp App. Driver takes you from A to B at pre determined price & none of this 'I don't go Sarf of the River'Bollocks. I have spoken to countless Uber (& Lyft) Drivers they earn great money & also work whatever hours suit. The drivers who are moaning are the same bell ends we used to get in the construction industry who couldn't make any money doing Price work.
