We lost the Ashes and that's all that matters and all that will be remembered in the future.

Seconded.

It's all after the lord major's show.

The ECB are to blame for caring more about maximising profits than being the test best team in the world.

I care. I watch England in all formats.

But pretty much agree that only the Ashes will be remembered (not by many though as it's had probably the least viewers of any Ashes series in decades). Unless we go on to win the World Cup that is.

The one day game is just as important now and we have a formidable team.

A good response from Joe Root bowling the Aussie captain and anchoring the reply yet again.

I don't consider the Ashes more important than beating South Africa which is actually more of a rarity.

Root is also not out in the series so far.

Our win percentage against South Africa at test cricket is quite a bit higher than against Australia, but in the last 20 odd years they've been very comparable opposition.

Given I have very little to do in my current job (which I will be leaving in 3 weeks) the opportunity to sit at my desk and watch the cricket on BT Sport to pass the time of day has been most welcome. I have been watching far too much Aussie Big Bash stuff, and to be honest they have players there that should walk into this current Ausie one day team .All very strange. One person to look out for is Joshra Archer, who has had a really good BBL and I believe is qualified to play for England. He can bowl 90 MPH off about 10 paces.

Jofra Archer - plays for Sussex and is from Barbados. Definitely qualifies for England though. Exciting young talent. Can hold a bat as well. Had a good season last year. One to watch.

I'm enjoying the one day stuff and have been since Bayliss was appointed. Different sport almost than Test cricket though these days.

He's already stated that he wants to play for England.

A few of the current Aussie ODI squad have got there via previous BBLs: AJ Tye, Travis Head, Chris Lynn, Peter Handscomb, Adam Zampa etc.

Another disappointing performance from Joe Root whose average is a mere 164 !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Plus taking over Plunkett's bowling, usual reliable catching, takes all sorts of knocks and gets right back in there.

He is also one thing that the Australians are not necessarily, a sportsman.

An exciting prospect if he sticks with his England choice. I still hold out for Jamie Overton....if he can stay on the field that's some serious pace.

That's what England need, two bowlers being picked who can hurry batsman not just Wood when he's fit.
