I don't think that it's so much wanting him to be retained that annoys people but that at the end of last season Campbell, Remy and Appiah were all released yet not one of them was replaced and we were supposed to go five months with only the one recognized striker which is sheer lunacy if not suicidal

Yes a totally unsatisfactory situation and one suspects we are going to pay a heavy price for not bolstering our attacking options.

There was a period in pre-season when it took over a month to find a new manager so one can accept that perhaps recruitment was put on the 'Back burner' pending an appointment. But FDB was appointed towards the end of June as as we know the 'Window' closed on 1st Sep and there were no forward signings in this period.

We all knew at the end of the 'Window' that there was the possibility that Benteke would get injured and we had no backup - unfortunately this has become reality.

I'm still struggling to understand just how we are in this position.

Not "Funny" as far as I am concerned.

However hard I try to find other reasons that we are in this mess the only valid reason that I can come up with is that we have an incompetent chairman.

For all those people that intend to jump down my throat for heresy the dictionary definition of incompetent is "not having or showing the necessary skills to do something successfully" and I can't see that from the moment that Sam walked out that anything was done successfully from the signing of a replacement manager to ensuring that we have a balanced squad.

If the buck doesn't stop with the man pulling the strings where the hell does it stop?

In 2017 when one takes both 'Windows' into consideration we have spent nearly £70 Mill (Excluding the add-ons). I suppose whether it has been well spent is open to lively debate !

I largely agree.

Although I don't think you can say he's been incompetent since he took over. He's ridden his luck at times and not all his decisions have been good ones, but overall he has been a decent chairman.

I think his performance over the last two years has been below par.

And I think the end of this season whether we stay up or go down, could see some changes at Board level.

Willo, add on £10 mil the previous summer and that's £80 mil. That's normal for 2 seasons, with quite a few spending £45 mil this summer.

We had money to buy a striker. Parish just preferred, or thought in his bad judgment, that Campbell would do, or he'd be able to do something, yet again, at the eleventh hour.

We had the money. We may not have been able to get a keeper and striker due to squad numbers and wage levels but it was certainly possible to get a striker.

Didn't he make some excuse that it wasn't that he was too late but it happened too late or some cr&p?

My dear Rudi

I wasn't inferring that we have spent a gargantuan amount. I was just saying that we have spent £70 Mill this year and there are some, perhaps many, who will reflect that overall we haven't had good value for this amount of money.

I agree that he hasn't been incompetent since he/they took over but the mistakes are getting more frequent and potentially more damaging. The constant failure to build a proper, balanced squad is a big issue. The dithering with big decisions, whether it be paying money for transfers, the structure of payments or agents fees or deciding which manager to employ.

I worry for our future with SP at the helm, we're not progressing as we should be. He wanted us to play more expansive football with Pardew, when that didn't work he said we needed to wind it back so we got Sam to save us, he then done another 180 when Sam fcuked off and went for Frank which was an unmitigated disaster and now we've gone back to Roy. It just smacks of someone who is struggling to know what direction to go in and who is best to take us there.

I am not privy to any discussions between Parish and the American investors but it is feasible that they are not impressed and asking "What the hell is going on ?".
