The only thing I would say in her defence as a point to note is she had previously been in an abusive relationship and she had also been drinking heavily at the time of the offence. Now we all know how much alcohol can alter our perceptions and reactions to things which appear to others to be quite trivial. The fact she had been in an abusive relationship in the past may well mean she doesn't have the appropriate coping strategies to deal with conflict and arguments in the new relationship she was in.
