I thought he was more likely to be sacked for breaking ministerial code. That cannot be taken lightly considering May's position. His claim that £350m per week will be available for investment in the NHS after Brexit was even disputed by the guy who came up with it in July 2017. He needs to sort out his personal issues before he ever becomes a marginal possibility.

I re-iterate these sentiments on behalf of the dastardly Labour party righly labelled the 'Nasty party'.
Anyhow this discussion is about Boris Johnson and NOT about the Labour Party and I am not going to be drawn down that line. Edited by Willo (29 Sep 2017 11.56am)

The problem I think for the conservatives with Boris, as leader, is that he's automatically going to be unpopular with Remainers and his appeal to the neutrals necessary for winning elections is a bit of a unknown. Tories, will certainly vote for him, but can he pull votes from swing voters and the like? I don't think so. In fact, going into things like a leadership election, he could be a liability in terms of debates, public speaking etc

He might be "Box-Office", engaging and entertaining but alas I am yet to be convinced he is the man for the job.

I think conservatives may forgive him for this, but everyone else will remember him for it, and that means losing swing seats etc. The conservatives will need to win over people who didn't vote for Brexit, and putting up Conservative most synonymous with it, could cost them votes, even among people who generally vote tory (but supported Brexit). Also, he's also not that popular among Brexiters either because he was pro-freedom of movement and remaining in the EEA He can afford to wait a few years, until the Exit is done and dusted, when that won't be an issue.

There will be consequences to leaving the EU, and I think the conservatives will try to keep an unpopular PM in position to catch as much of that flack before they sacrifice them.

I'm not going to use words like "Dump her" but I think it unlikely she will contest the next election. Even if she DID, I still believe that the Conservatives will remain in power. Let's not forget that despite an abject manifesto and campaign we secured many more votes and seats than Labour and Labour will simply NOT get away with what they got away with at the last election.Labour lost the last election and they will lose the next. Anyway, we are getting away from the subject matter.I have pilloried Labour outside of HOL time and time again and I really don't wish to spend my valuable time continuing my vituperation on here.Only raises my blood pressure ! To the man and woman on the street this is the funny guy with the posh voice and bumbling nature.....He's going to get quite a few votes on the 'likeability' score. No one on the left will ever vote for him....hell they wouldn't vote for any Tory anyway no matter how mild. All the Tory base will vote for him. For me, it's a no brainer......I can't really believe that egos in the party don't see what is plain as day.....Well, actually I do...it's the fact that he's disorganised and scatter gun.....My answer to that is to view him more as a partial figurehead than as the driver and get his agreement on that.....heavyweights like Davies and co can work with him. As for public speaking. This is one of his strengths. Two jokes and a flick of the hair and it's over. The left will take offence at everything, they will rant and foam and make themselves look immature and...well like I say...over. The charisma vacancy that is Corbyn isn't going to make a dent.
