SP took 6 weeks to due come to a decision as to a new manager. We must hold the record! The rest as they say is history.

It was more important to take Zaha on holiday a day or two after Sam resigning. I mean all chairmen do it. Don't they?

Makes a nice story, but there is no evidence of any truth in the Silva and Dyche part.
Unless you have inside information, you are just guessing.

So if you are right, that Dyche and Silva laughed us off, which I doubt both did, then Parish was waiting for Southampton to choose their manager and effectively ours. It's not a coincidence we both announced our managers within 48 hours of each other. Because of all that we ended up with the one successful at the biggest club in his country, in a tinpot league McLaren won and a year after being sacked asap in Italy.

It looked odd to me then as it does now. I can only think it was either to do with time pressure if not for Frank's BS in interview. But then Frank wouldn't bullsh1t, would he?

Must say Dyche has got Burnely playing very well. Also looks to have made good signings.

unfortunately we have tried to run before we can walk Much as I think Sakho and Benteke are great players I feel that by paying such a large proportion of our budget on these two the squad is paper thin elsewhere. Dyche has built on Burnley's lower table squad by purchasing some hard working lower to mid table EPL players. This was what we needed to do.

Whose fault ? Who knows.

Picking up afew points of other posts.

DF was very close to sack when we lost to BC in cup. Delaney, Bolasie and afew others then joined and we started to climb. However in my view DF has shown in other positions he is not a good manager. He got lucky so why is he back as Director of Football

Pullis wanted his own players which in someways is fine but SP wanted a resale value players like crouch didn't offer that. Also Pullis didn't want Zaha.

Pardew did fine first season and first part of second. Then the train hit the buffers. We suffered injuries particularly to Bolasie and that hurt us. We got to cup final and lost slightly unluckily. I think the mistake was then an attempt to change style and rather than trying to increase depth of squad we bought Benteke and Townsend and also sold Bolasie. Bolasie wanted to go no doubt but the previous few months had shown our backup wingers were not adequate so effectively he wasn't replaced. Rather than spending Bolasie money on Benteke we should have got 2 good pros. Left Back problems who could have foretold he would be involved in the car crash.

FDB I think was given money to spend, he just didn't spend it. I think he was told you have £40-£50 million We suggest Sakho, but by deadline day we had 1 player and 2 loanees and no-0ne had left. We had lost our games and he didn't seem to be learning lessons of EPL. So I think that is point SP and DF took over and got Sakho and tried to get striker over line.

Can we get out of this mess? I think we can. But players like Ward, Hennessey Puncheon are who we have, there is no point in moaning. There confidence is low so support them rather than slag them off

Oh I support when I go, until everyone goes quiet. I might be close to just being silent from the off though.

1. Experienced Premier League managers like Pulis and Allardyce would rather defenestrate than spend another season with us.
2. Lack of long-term planning, and of the infrastructure and personnel which might allow us to plan for the long term.
3. On a related note, we always seem to be a transfer window behind, looking to plug obvious gaps that should have been filled months earlier in the previous window. Come January, this will be the case again; we should be in a position where we are looking forward, but we will be looking back.
4. A squad with too many players that are no longer good enough/were never good enough, who we haven't been able to sell and replace.
5. A squad with too many players who should still be useful at this level but who look like their form and confidence are shot after a dreadful couple of years.

Issues like these will continue to undermine the current and future manager(s).

Good post, some very relevant points made.

Won : 14

Lost : 40

Draw : 12

That is a devastating amount of losses for any team, at any level to absorb.

I think the YB injury did hurt us and that was also the season we jettisoned Glenn Murray and by mid-season had hired footballing mercenary Emmanuel Adebayor.

As important people declined (Jedi) in other areas we made terrible signings (Alex McCarthy) Remember him? and suddenly people like Patrick Bamford, who were never, ever going to be Palace were on board.

We have lost a core group and failed to replace them with players of the same mentality and toughness with a point to prove.

We lack Leaders and Winners........

We discussed Silva before, he was always going to Watford.
Not sure if Dyche wanted to move South.?
And we all wanted Zaha to sign because he was going to leave again.?
And because both Burnley and Watford have started well Parish is at fault as usual.
All the Holers praising Bournemouth and Evertons transfer policies have gone quiet.
Early days though we just need a WIN.
All we are saying is give us a goal.!!!!

You must be joking right? You seriously think Manure don't have other options for Mourinho waiting in the wings right now where provisional terms are being thrashed out? I suspect even Burnley have. Have you not noticed that teams that sack managers usually "find" their replacement with indecent speed. All managers know this. It is part and parcel of what they do and they are paid handsomely for it.

The big clubs take about a year over prospective new managers and players for full due diligence. That includes a full stress test, serious courting, secret discussions with agents etc. If nothing comes of it as the manager performs, both stay in their current role and no-one is any the wiser.

We weren't prepared as, unlike Watford who had clearly planned for this, we were completely taken by surprise. 6 weeks is not a record for slowness; it is the blink of an eye compared to the time and effort that normally goes into selecting a successor.

Probably arranged way in advance where a key player was being aggressively courted by the likes of Spurs. As to his importance, injured 6 1/2 games; lost all 7; for much of which the only other serious absentee was Wickham.

There are better reasons for criticising the management than this clutch at straws.

The left back debacle happened for 2 reasons.

1. When we're waiting to do a big deal, which we could do a little earlier and end up paying the same, we, for some reason, can't do another one. And money isn't an excuse because after signing Benteke we would only be spending £10 mil net. We then spent more in January than we would've done in the first place.

Similar with Sakho and no striker and prepared to put up over £10 mil for a striker.

2. Parish and Pardew were too close so a left back wasn't raised, or wasn't needed in their collective view and non challenging relationship.

I do wonder what freedman was advising as the deadline was getting closer and we weren't making enough moves in getting a striker in.

Pardew has fully admitted his part in the error over the LB replacement. I think he can only take a certain % of the blame as at our club it is the senior management who do the buying. However, the manager is (apparently) fully heard. That is his % culpability.

This is about more than the manager.

Since January of 2016 we have played 64 league games and scored 52 points.

If that was not bad enough, take out Sahko last season (and that miraculous spell of results) and it is played 56 and scored 36 points. There is something more fundamentally wrong than just the manager, playing style, etc.

Sam made it clear that the players were not listening to him and that is took a monumental slice of luck to get the results we did to stay up. FDB also made similar comments about player power, and whatever one thinks of him his spotlighting Mutch, Ward, Delaney, Hennessey, and Lee as not being good enough was not wrong. Yet, they are all still at the club.

this may be the case. Funny that when FDB criticised the players plenty of fans rounded on him saying it was bang out of order and poor management. The truth is too much for some people.
