It is a he said she said scenario but a friend of mine with no axe to grind knows people close to Dyche and he thought the job was his and was supposedly not a happy bunny when he didn't get it - ALLEGEDLY!
If true then our interview system is shot to pieces because that man has done wonders with limited resources and players and he would have been aka Sam and Pulis which works well for us and right now we would probably have 9 points or thereabouts.
Instead we go for the sexy football thing as with Pardew and it doesn't work for us at the moment.
Add that to Pardew being given a new contract instead of being sacked and a generally poor transfer process in place at the Club and we are deep in it and unless we get lucky quickly the chickens will be roosting by Christmas time!

In another he said she said scenario, there is a good reason as to why he didn't get it. Non footballing.

Just a thought, 3 clubs have been relegated from the premier league from year one, plus 3 clubs from the old 1st Div for donkey years.
Every one of those dozens and hundreds of Chairmen, owners etc "got it wrong and made mistakes"
Apart from these who Did get relegated, there isn't One club in the premier league or Championship or First Division that hasn't sacked their manager to save their status.
They ALL have had their disasters and bad times.
Maybe. just maybe, its not so easy as so many on here think it is.
If we are relegated, its Parish who looses a lot of money, not us, as i say, just a thought

Not calling him out. Just outlining that there is a 'he said, she said' as to why he wasn't selected for the job.

Ok, this my take on this sorry debacle.....

Most probably the reason as to why Pardew wasn't sacked at the same time as offering him a new contract was the close relationship (allegedly) SP had with him, basically friendship getting in the way of business which, is always a problem.
My second observation is the comment that Keith Millen made when being interviewed after he was relieved of his position and is was to this effect....."Sam will do very well to get anything out of these players". This I took to infer that there was some player power in play.
My third is the perhaps close relationship that SP has with one of the players and I believe that Ward is one. This could well be undermining the manager and as a consequence SP becoming too involved in team affairs.
I must say that I am now seriously questioning SP's capabilities as a Chairman, didn't previously in fact always been supportive and voiced this opinion. IMO he needs to stop resorting to social media every 5 minutes and concentrate on getting this great club (it is) stable and properly structured plus let the manager manage.

And you inferred you knew more than any of us.

The reason he wasn't sacked was because the first 12 months in charge of the club, we were exactly what we hoped we could be. Then the second half of his second season, the wheels came off in the league, but we also beat premiership opposition to come within 10 minutes of winning the FA cup.

Its easy to forget that Pardew, had his first 12 months, been over the course of a whole season, could well have had Palace qualifying for Europe as well as having reached an FA Cup final.

So its not surprising that the board were hopeful that given time, Pardew could recover it. We weren't being badly beaten, we were scoring goals, but conceding too many - Its easy to see that they were thinking, if he can just get that balance right, he'd achieve exactly what they wanted.

Yeah they left it too long, but I can see why.

We are the Laurel and Hardy of English football. Every season we seem to manage to have gotten into some fine mess. The ways we get out of it are often comical.
