What's the point of General Talk?

You are right about that.
But HOL serves as an outlet for people with little or no power to vent their frustrations about things that annoy them.
I don't see that as a problem unless you just don't like people disagreeing with you. Embrace it. It's one of the better things about the 21st century. You can bounce opinions around and maybe, just maybe, you might learn something.

I'd just prefer more moderation to stop the ones that descend into just slagging each other off, to try and stop threads going off track and to lock threads that are so far off their original topic it's absurd. Optimistic as ever
