You seriously want me to get involved in a discussion over that?

Shall we tackle the 'flat earth' afterwards?

I'm not religious.

As time goes by there is more and more evidence to suggest that people are designed to be vegans. The fact that so many meat eaters suffer from diseases directly related to their diet and the fact many people suffering from these diseases can reverse their effects by eating a healthy vegan diet point to this. I've spoken to people personally with various health problems and by changing their diets and eliminating meat and dairy have seen significant improvements in their health. This diet is so unnatural for people. The antibiotics the animals are given, the growth hormones, the conditions they are kept in and the unnatural lives they lead are all reasons why people are more likely to develop illnesses the more they eat these foods. The whole industry is shrouded in secrecy and lies. The diet is causing suffering to animals, destroying people's health and killing the planet. It's time that more people not only refused to fund it but actively stood up against it. The sooner people stop eating meat and dairy and evolve to a diet of vegetarianism - preferably veganism the better. Even Einstein would agree on that.

Whilst what you say is true they aren't reasons why humans weren't designed to be omnivores as all they show is that human intervention makes a mess of the natural order of things

None of what you say there is evidence for humans being designed as vegans.

Aging proves that humans are not designed to stick around far beyond thirty forty.....not a nice reality but there you go....As Churchill said, 'live your life like a sprint'.

All you have there is the reasonable assertion that not eating meats and dairy is healthier over time. With enough protein I'd probably agree.

However it should also be remembered that we live in a time where people in the west are living to the highest ages on average in human history.

Mr Standup. You are mixing up several different arguments and whilst some may be winnable others are not.

The human body was designed to be omnivore as I can't imagine Neanderthal man tending his cabbage patch and saying that it isn't is really an argument that you will never win.

All of the rubbish that we have put into the livestock is another matter and whilst possibly a lot of it is unhealthy and causes health problems for some people a vegan diet is also unhealthy for some people but you wouldn't say that because some are gluten intolerant it means that vegetarianism is bad for you.

The argument that you are making is more that we should stand up for inhumane farming practices and I agree with you.

Many humans eat meat on the basis that they turn a blind eye to the fact that their dinner was running around.

We have an organic free range pig farm near us and I was in their farm shop a couple of months ago and a female customer wasn't happy that there was a pig's head on the counter as she obviously didn't want to think too hard about what it was she was there to buy.

No matter how much fuss you kick up you will never turn the population into vegans but if there was a concerted effort to continually promote unnatural farming practices you might make headway into making livestock's short lives better.

The idea that we need to kill animals to feed the growing population isn't true either.

The production of meat is massively inefficient, for example it takes 2,500 gallons of water, 12 pounds of grain, 35 pounds of topsoil and the energy equivalent of one gallon of gasoline to produce one pound of feedlot beef

70% of American grain goes to feed livestock and it is estimated that we could feed 800 million people with the grain that livestock eats.

This is an interesting article on this topic

Factory farming is barbaric. It is only sustainable because people don't really know what dreadful processes go on behind the scenes.

A good book on the topic is Farmageddon by Philip Lymbery and Isobel Oakeshott.

Crap.

Humans can eat meat - in limited circumstances such as it having to be cooked so that we can eliminate the bacteria our bodies can't handle and be able to bite through it. Just because we can, doesn't mean we should. There are so many deadly diseases associated with eating meat that simply disappear with a plant-based diet.

Add to that the ecological, environmental and ethical disaster that is the meat industry, the world would simply be better off eating far less meat and far more plants.

I think this is a choice a lot of people would make if we were allowed to know truly what's in what we're consuming. We've had the pink slime controversy and the bread made from yoga mats controversy. But what about a simple glass of milk...
