You could wait till black friday and then get yourself a vpn deal...cheap as chips....hide your IP from your ISP.....then you could only download from select rippers on the net.

I've heard about someone who did this of course.....I'm an Internet saint.

I really miss my "Cluster-fvck vol 3" DVD, which I bought from 'The Dam' 20 years ago.

Really impressive acting.

Was able to hide in my bookcase, and keep the computer free of dodgy downloads

Compression is an issue for the picture quality too. Streaming services will say it's "full HD", but it's so compressed that t doesn't look any good on a large screen.

I was an early adopter of high resolution DVD but typical me I backed the wrong horse and bought HD DVD instead of Bluray and the discs were expensive at the time but are worthless nowadays.

Picture resolutions is fantastic and allegedly better than Bluray who only won the battle as Sony had deeper pockets than Hitachi

Same as VHS and Betamax back in the day, the lesser format won. You might still be able to rip those HD DVDs though, and get the benefit of the resolution and sound quality; your computers optical drive should be able to handle them and so you just need a ripping app to get it done.

I've tried but nothing happens. Makemkv will rip HD-DVD but when I put them in my computer's drive it just spits them out again

You can play the rips using a free media player like VLC:.

If your built-in drive won't handle them, then you should be able to find an external drive that can read HD DVD. Of course, that's an additional investment that might not be of any interest to you.

I think, if his optical drive is spitting them out, it's because it can't read the format. Not a software issue in that case.

Nope, true...perhaps there's an update for the drive.
