Worked at the Dog and Bull for a bit which was the best Young's pub ever. Assistant manager at the Rileys, which was s***, but Ray was nice. Yeah I was well happy there. You’ll know us then. Four pints of special to take away in a milk jug.

As you say, quite a lady, remember her winning the bingo/jackpot in the Beulah club, and trying to buy everyone a drink,of course no one took her up on the offer

Her first name was Leah but she always used her second name of Minnie.

I used to with a few from Philips on the Purley Way - they were from the area and knew Bill and his band were great and I loved it too - the used to be some ok jazz at the Red Deer - shame fewer pubs have live music these days.

Probably know you, I was only thinking of Kevin and Barbara a day or so ago. Played pool for the Ship and spent many an early morning on an upstairs pool bar lock in.

I think the big companies moving out is a big factor. Are the BT and Nestle buildings still sitting there empty ? Croydon used to be a big business centre and has alot of office space which, only guessing but I would have thought well than under 40% occupied? Take away the Home Office buildings and Wellesley road would be a virtual ghost town. Croydon Centre needs to be completely reinvented and reinvigorated and find a new identity, it's just a relic of it's past at the mo
