You are right to point out the modern day hysteria around anything sexual. There's a weird mixture of repression and something else going on.

In the past I think laws and concerns were too lax....but today you can't even discuss anything sexual without the usual morons labeling you this or that for questioning attitudes.

Its specifically a problem in the US, because offences that can be charged as offences, public urination, are charged as sex offences, in order to leverage a plea bargain (that won't include registration as a sex offender) - and this is on anything that can be potentially charged as a sex offence (sex in public, sex offence, streaking or skinny dipping, sex offence, sending nude texts, sex offence).

It improves conviction rates and looks good in stats, but what it has created is a monumental problem, where you have people listed as sex offenders for very minor offences, that are then bound by restrictions relating to sex offenders (Some counties have built up homeless communities of sex offenders some genuine, some not so much, because of the requirements of distance required in a residence, from a school or playground and of course being listed makes it very hard to rent somewhere and not be hounded out).

Well,Stirling who would have thought you knew so much about the happiness or unhappiness of woman many years before you were even born.

Virtually impossible to get away from an abusive husband?

Trapped in a loveless marriage with someone you hate and they hate you because of an unwanted pregnancy?

Husband raping you not being illegal?

Taking for granted you will be paid far less than a man doing the same work?

Being told "go and powder your pretty little face" and "leave the important things to the boys"?

Dying from a back street abortion?

Bring back the good old days?

This is the problem with the Brexit / MAGA crowd: they harken back to better days that weren't better; or, at least, were better only for a limited segment of the population (white males).

Go back to any time period and you will find, typically, that the thing that made them great in the minds of Brexiters and MAGAers was a thing that was pretty s***ty to women or a minority.

Be careful. If you take the federation of states that constitutes the United States of America, and apply it to Europe, you have just argued in favour of a highly centralised EU United States of Europe as opposed to a looser federation with some power retained in the constituent states

Correct. The US constitution is very deliberate about not wanting to wrest power from the States and so limits the ability of the Federal government to usurp the authority of the individual member-states.

This is why, for example, it took a constitutional amendment to outlaw slavery because it was that high-level of lawmaking that was required by the constitution for the Federal government to impose the ban on slaves in the south. Getting that amendment done was so momentous and difficult that Spielberg made a movie about it!

If you're whining because the playing field has been leveled, then you are a bit of a b******.

As the late, great Chris Cornell said: "Arm yourself because no one else here will save you."

I find it hilarious that those on the right fall to the ground in in subjugation to a strong man (emphasis on "man") but feel threatened by a kale-eating, hemp-shirt wearing liberal.

The past is always s**tier than you remember. Nostalgia is a poor mans opiate of the masses or something.

I find it hilarious that people carrying confederate flags can call themselves patriots.

Your perception of the past is biased like everybody else's. Judging of the past depends upon your value system.

The confederate flag can represent different things to different people. You get black men flying that flag as well.

I find it hilarious that people feel the need to display any flag......except maybe during the World Cup.
That goes double for people who have moved to a country but still want to fly the flag of where they came from in the car window.
