Sorry Wayne, i know you must be smarting from not playing but take a look at a replay of that goal again, you will clearly see that both Speroni and Mcarthur are expecting the other to deal with the ball and at the same time both of them back off from actioning. Mcarthur looks like he's about to hook the ball out and pulls back rather than take Speronis head head off and vice versa, Speroni looks like he's about to go for the ball but stops thinking Mcarthur has it. If you been at the game, you'd also have seen them both questioning each other in the immediate aftermath, with gesticulating as to what they thought was happening.

We all know you have been trying hard but its just not been good enough buddy.

So even in your eyes he is at least partly at fault then?

By the way, I really wish you would stop calling me 'Wayne' just because I disagree with your point of view. It really is pathetic and childish.

Oh indeed, i agree that someone who hasn't played first team football for an age should have been more dominant. or should it be Mcarthur who thought "fcuk this, this is going in the stands" - easy to say after the event.

But even you must agree Wayne, had it have been you, you'd have been on the opposite side of the goal mouth anyways......

Sometimes 'Greatness' is bestowed far too liberally in respect of those who don't warrant such an accolade and I include 'World Class' in this category.

I would agree neither are “Great”, but average Premier keepers. Not all goals are stoppable for various reasons occurring in play, there has never been any keeper, that hasn’t let a goal in.
This forensic examination of every goal that is conceded by either keeper isn’t conclusive, it depends on people’s view.
The only persons view that has any relevance is Hodgson, as he picks the team.

Both JS and WH have advantages and disadvantages .... but I just give it to JS because the defence looks to him to keep them tight and he talks to them about position and players ..... they love it

This.

they both have strengths and weaknesses, JS commands his box better, and because of it helps his defence play more cohesively.

There have been criticisms on here about Hennessey dealing with free kicks over a wall.

Newcastle have Shelvey,Ritchie and Perez who are more than capable of scoring from such a set-piece.

In the Newcastle goal, Rob Elliot is left-footed but distributes with his right hand and has a huge throw. He loves his cricket and is a fervent Kent supporter.

Speroni is a Palace goalkeeping legend. He is still younger than some of the legendary champions league/national heroes of late.

the other bloke, isnt ( a legend, at least not in a good way ) . What is a legend about him is how he kept getting so many second-chances.

No he doesn't - they both stay on their line and hope the defence clear the ball.

Last time we played there JS let in 3 rather soft goals. Let's hope Puncheon doesn't play so we won't concede free-kicks outside the box.

cpj, you say that people treat Hennessy unfairly but you are doing exactly the same with Speroni, you clearly have an agenda against the guy, what you are saying is harsh on him, how can you criticise him for their goal, it was a free header 8 yards out that was headed into the ground going into the corner of the goal, that makes it very difficult to save. But some of what you are saying as well is just ridiculous, how can you criticise him for saving an offside shot or leaving the pitch on his own. in all honesty most of the stick you give him is as 'unfair' as the stick Wayne gets

I'm not so sure that reading this thread that CPJ has an 'agenda' against Jules...he's just sticking to his original point..something that a few on here have serious trouble dealing with.

Suffice to say NEITHER of our keepers are good enough..its just that Jules is the lesser of two evils and has his Achilles heel whereas WH has a few...
