[Link] This might be the shortest idea Crystal Palace lineup piece I've ever written.

Because even though Roy Hodgson has Wayne Hennessey and Ruben Loftus-Cheek back available for the trip to Newcastle on Saturday he shouldn't change a thing.

Not a single thing.

He should pick the exact same starting XI that took the field against Chelsea. And that means Julian Speroni keeps his place in goal and Loftus-Cheek has to make do with a place on the bench.

Everyone had good games on Saturday and it is so rare that a manager gets to pick the same starting XI week to week; it doesn't feel like Palace have done it much at all over the past five seasons.

But none of those who started against Chelsea deserve to be dropped. Not least Speroni who has waited patiently for his chance back in the first team and was told by Hodgson to take his opportunity. He did that and deserves to keep his place.

Horses for courses. At the moment we need Speroni. Yes, it would've been nice to see him keep a clean sheet but FFS which of you wouldn't have taken a 2 - 1 win?

Have just seen your post so apologise for the late reply. First I have never disrespected Jules in any way. As for Wayne I dislike the way he has been vilified on here mostly unfairly and has been blamed for almost every goal we've conceded this season. I just wish people would analyse the games in more detail especially events leading up to goals before automatically blaming Wayne.

I could be here a long time giving examples where he has been blamed unfairly but most people would have fallen asleep by then.

I would be quite happy if a better keeper than WH was found for us but that doesn't mean Wayne is useless as there are many keepers in the PL who are about the same standard as him. I'll give one example ie against Southampton he saved a fierce shot but it went out to an unmarked Saints forward who scored. That same week end I saw Courtois do the almost exact same save but the Chelsea defence were alert and cleared the ball. And in the WBA v Man City Cup game Ben Foster made a save but the ball was parried and Sane scored from the rebound. However Wayne was crucified on here for that goal but no-one blamed the defence in front of him for leaving the Saints player unmarked.

I could go on but will leave it there for now.

Excellent post - sums up how a lot of us feel.

Three seasons ago when Speroni last regularly played, he had a torrid time, often failing to deal with crosses and shots to leave tap-ins - Everton, Arsenal and Liverpool (cup) at home all immediately spring to mind, plus he had an awful game at Newcastle with 3 very soft goals. However, according to many on here, he can do no wrong in their eyes and all shots that beat him are 'worldies' whilst on the other hand WH is at fault for every goal he lets in.

He didn't - he let one in, dropped another on the line and was lucky to grab it again, and saw another shot bounce off his knees, luckily to safety. He did nothing towards the win.

See, you're missing the point entirely. The crowd really shouldn't have been up for that all things considered. Two teams of Chelsea's calibre had just slapped 9 goals past us in the last two games and we were looking out to sea with no other reasons to be hopeful other than the return of Wilf and Speroni. You simply can't deny the effect Jukes had around the place. If you are denying it then you're
doing so to suit an agenda and nothing else.

Speroni has been at every home game for the last year, if he has such an effect on the crowd and players, why hasn’t it happened before?
Ok, he started last week, but if he is such an inspirational figure being in the ground should lift the crowd. I have nothing against him, but you are going a bit over the top regarding his contribution. The organisational work done by Hodgson and Lewington had are far bigger effect on the team.

Why ? It's fairly accurate when compared to what is aimed at Hennessey.

I suppose you have a degree in Goalkeeping then??????

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky.
