Recently we have been getting some female commentators for international cricket and most (not all) of them are excellent. So for me....just like for football, it's about the commentator themselves.

But if you prefer men commentating, there's nothing wrong with that and I don't think you need to apologise for it.

Off topic slightly - I have no problem with female commentators as such. However the issue is pitch of voice. Majority of women have higher voices than men and this become accentuated in the heat of the moment when commentating on an exciting incident in a game e.g. a goal, and can be rather hard on the ears.

Heard on radio recently that a Muslim ref,a girl reffed a game.
A decision went against a player and he was
Giving it to her as he would a male ref.
Another player said "ease up she's a girl,
Give her some respect"
And apparently he got back words to the tune of
" And to respect her and her position as a ref she has to be treated like any ref, not namby Pamby she's a girl crap"
" That's how she gets respect"
I reckon that is spot on.
If that is how it is then yes get women reffing mens games.
If they can't take the abuse and what comes with a bad decision then no.

Thought we had good officials yesterday. Her in particular with three calls that were so tight that she could easily have missed. But I thought Marriner was good yesterday particularly second half, one time he let us break away and the advantage didn't pan out so he brought it back for our free kick when we were under pressure.

Agreed, although I'm still trying to figure out where the f*** he pulled 5 minutes injury time from.

Because the ref still has to keep control of the game, and i dont think men on a professional field of soccer would respect her enough that she could keep control.

Wait! So, because players are complete babies, it's ok to install a glass touchline?

Given that women have to be twice as good at a job to win it over a man, I suspect that any female referee who get the whistle in a professional game will have the minerals to run it appropriately.

One trick might be not making horrible decisions. Most of this thread has been about praising Massey-Ellis' work running the touchline. Who's to say she couldn't put in as a good a job in the middle? Not the over-paid, cheating and flopping man-children who play the game, that's for sure.

You're old fashioned.

"Soccer" coverage in the U.S. is typically anchored by either Rebecca Lowe or Katie Abdo. Both are excellent at their jobs.

I would be happy to listen to a female match commentator if she was similarly good at the job. I suspect that Lowe, at least, would be a better colour commentator than half the ex-player Cro-Magnons we have to suffer through.

For example, listening to Lee Dixon (I think it was - they're so interchangeable) drone on about the fact that Aguero should've been tucked up in bed with a cup of tea - like back in his day - instead of getting into a completely random, no fault on his part, cab accident, was excruciatingly painful. I would welcome a fresh perspective, regardless of the pitch of the voice.

They need to understand that Paul Whitehouse's "Ron Manager" was a parody, not a blueprint.
