Off topic slightly - I have no problem with female commentators as such. However the issue is pitch of voice. Majority of women have higher voices than men and this become accentuated in the heat of the moment when commentating on an exciting incident in a game e.g. a goal, and can be rather hard on the ears.

Understood, tone and pitch of voice and all that....no issues.

No one should feel bad about what their preferences are...it is what it is.

I tend to turn the commentary off on football matches anyway as I find most of them can't keep up with play (for totally understandable reasons) and lots of comments aren't that interesting to me.....but that's me.

In cricket we have some excellent female cricket commentators come on the scene recently. Intelligent comment that's there by merit. Cool, good additions to the ranks.

I have gender preferences in loads of areas.....I can count on one hand the number of women I've met in real life who were genuinely funny.....Funny women in stand up are rare....there's a lot of tokenism going on in that department at the moment.

When it comes to attractiveness......women personify beauty.....well, the ones that put effort into it.

Like I say, I prefer a female nurse...In more ways than one. But I made sure the guy who baptized our boys was male. If a family has a strong matriarch figure it often helps considerably as women tend to be better at keeping families together.....well that was how it was in our family.

These are all preferences. Other people will have their own or none at all.

Clearly, you have never listened to football commentary on a Spanish-language channel.

We don't do possession; we do defense and attack. Everything else is just wa**ing with a football.

If my "memory" serves me right she is based in Coventry and "received" an MBE. There was also an incident,in "Wales" I believe, where she was knocked over, "apparently" an accident.
And of course "the" sacking of Andy Gray and Richard Keys was "because" of the awful comments made about "her".

I would be happy to!

But, is lineswoman the correct term? I don't know what may be used instead.
Linesperson? Nope, too pc.
Lino - floor covering.
Assistant referee sounds better.
Thoughts?

Officially, they're all called "Assistant Referees" these days, so that's what she is.
