Britain dropping a nuclear bomb on Russia without US support is ridiculous and impractical. We didn't have enough of them and the Russian army would have been able to attack Europe....in a war we started without the US.

I should imagine that in five years they would have a reasonable build up to make such an attack..Far easier to hit Europe than an Island in the ocean....London isn't a big danger...that's over 100 miles from my kids, but there's a major RAF site about 40 miles away. A post covering all attack options would be huge. I'm happy you are happy for your kids to grow in within the new cold war scenario but I'm very critical of the decisions that led to this. ok if anyone is concerned about North Korean nukes hitting the Home Counties then I suggest you have a long holiday, relax and try to work out when it was exactly you became paranoid and lost the plot.

You'll easily find as much credible insight as you like about NATO's First Strike doctrine. If you think China's "war machine" is anywhere near comparable to that of the US and Russia (at the moment, I'll grant you) and strong enough to support any thoughts of a First Strike, you're clueless. Yeah, the picture with the Red Bear is more ambiguous, but the window for a conventional invasion of Europe from the East closed many years ago. They have s***loads of natural resources already and have the US air force based within striking distance from land bases the in the west, east and the south (Iraq, Israel). They've been set up on the strategic defensive for years, which is why they obsess about SAMs, interceptor and front line air superiority aircraft. (S-400, Mig-31 and the latest SU fighter variants).
