Fair assessment, however the boys loyalty surly has to be consider. Who knows in time he may equal the greats in skills & loyalty.

When he performs to his high standard for a whole season and then again the following season only then can he be compared to Sansom and Wright our two most gifted players of the last 40 years.

He's a sub in my all time Palace team.

He's the most skilful player and flair player I can remember since Hilaire. As others have said he has had trouble with consistency and end-product but he genuinely seems to have improved on his weaknesses. I wonder if he could be a world great by his late twenties? (presumably not for us but at least not for Man U either).
I have to disagree with the Wright stuff - great pace and great finishing but was not really that skilful a player. I always thought Bright and Salako had the more subtle game. Gray and Wright had the power and pace. GT and Super Al had the drive - those were the days.
Wilf is starting to reach high levels in all of those areas and can still improve.

Going to sit on the fence until his Palace career is over. One thing for sure the longer it continues the better for all of us.

You beat me to it - the best 2 players ever to play for Palace - Kenny Sansom and Ian Wright, no if's, buts or why for's.

My Dad would argue Johnny Byrne - but I'm sure only because he was his captain in the academy/junior side. So way before my time - older HOL'ers may have a view.

Then you have IMO the likes of Jim Cannon, Billy Gilbert, Peter Nicholas, Nigel Martyn, Geoff Thomas, Vince Hilaire, Mark Bright, Nathaniel Clyne, Victor Moses etc..

One of personal favourites Jerry Murphy - such a sweet left peg....!!

Think Wilf is getting close - but as others have said needs consistency and longevity - if he achieves that it would be hard to argue he wouldn't be in the top 3 after King Ken and Sir Ian.

Agree with you on Irish Jerry Murphy, what a left footed midfielder that came a bit in the shadows of Peter Nicholas, Sansom, Hilaire and Gerry Francis. And Zaha? Of raw talent probably in top 2/3 and as it is said, he stays with us will be our all time no. 1...

Wilf Zaha is a true superstar, and surely ranks as one of our best ever players, but has even more to do to replace my all-time favourite, the late great Johnny Byrne.

think that says most about different times could the old guard play today and could the new guard play back then. for me the old guard played like men, you didnt see them crying with the simplest of touches the old didnt wear shin pads most of the time

In recent times I think the skill and flair side of his game is on par with Bolassie, however his defensive game and his end product have both significantly increased, he is undoubtedly our talisman and he is getting better each week, I just hope he stays!!

Johnny Byrne for me as was absolute class. Don't forget he played for England even though we were in Div 3 at the time. He commanded the then world record transfer fee and one of the few England players to score a hat trick in an England shirt.
Zaha? Yes a great player but his histrionics at times turn refs against him. That said though he should get more protection when it must be obvious to the ref he is being targeted a la Huddersfield.
