The echo chamber can become a 'safe' space and most ideas should always be open to debate for healthy freedom of speech. I can't deny I....like Nick...enjoy a bit of back and forth....but that can also be tedious and as has been rightly pointed out to me....it's not much fun as a spectator sport for the boards. It does need to be cut back on I think. I essentially agree that any political decision that introduces more religion into politics isn't a good thing....well, it's pretty bad. Is Christianity a threat to secularism?........well as it introduced secularism itself I doubt it's going to make much difference....But having said that, I've never been ok with the mixing of church and state....It's a step back for our most important democracy.

But in universities, public boards and so on all ideas should be up for discussion and assumptions speared. But I reckon it goes both ways - some are reticent, others belicose - and there needs to be a mid-way point between the two for reasonable doubt and challenge. Question is, how do you deal with zealots like Pruitt?

He's famously not religious but he knows what side his bread is buttered. America is so polarised and at such loggerheads with each other the Democrats need a calm leader who engages with civility....I think that works against Trump with floating voters....Clinton tried but she was too establishment. If Sanders gets the gig....will he be too old? If he gets the gig it will be interesting.

A few nutters are born (the chronically psychopathic perhaps) but I think most are nurtured. Not sure how you stop it being nurtured though. Stigmatising people seems to have the opposite affect but I'm not sure how you get isolated / fearful people (of whatever stripe) to engage constructively. Come across some ideas in education, but the system is so in hock to exams there's little room or resource for other things.
