I have no doubt we stupid humans have contributed to the Earths downfall,or accelerated it.
We hadvan ice age before, rather have warmth though, dont like the cold

We don't know what causes them exactly. It could be that so called global warming could stall the next ice age which would save our civilisation. That said, killing off lots of us might actually perpetuate humanity and give it a longer existance. Alternatively, global warming might actually cause an ice age. Who knows?

I reckon the last ice age was ended by all those cavemen banging flints together causing sparks.

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]

Erm this thread is about U.S. Politics being influenced by religion.

But the seriousness of the refugee crisis was compared to climate change by TOME a while back in the thread.
Frankly it's healthy how these threads morph into others.
We all have an interest in different things.

I have already had my say on religious nuttery.

I would undermine the institutions that perpetuate religion. Sadly, politicians are too gutless and self serving to do so.

It was aimed at a poster who told me I was off subject in another thread.

Civilisation is doomed. All civilisations rise and fall, and usually a new one just rises to fill the gaps and sweep up the ashes (and then steal from the one they replaced). Even 'the divinity of kings' couldn't save feudalism.

What's on yhe left? inefficiency, stagnation, cronyism, identity politics.

The fact is that humanity will inevitably use up resources, poison the environment and exploit the weak because population grows and men seek to better themselves.
To rescue ourselves we need a gamechanger. I hope those guys at Area 51 have been busy.

Something akin to nanotechnology. The capacity to influence matter on the atomic scale (i.e. engineering either at the atomic or subatomic level) which would effectively allow anything to be changed into anything else (if you can move protons, electrons and neutrons from one substance to another, you can materially reproduce anything from anything else).

You could turn plastic waste into food, and literal s**t into gold.

The downside of course is that it would be an end to capitalism (given that you'd have no basis of supply and demand), and limitless resources (esp. as you could turn dead bodies into anything else).

This is the tip of the proverbial iceberg. No wonder we have problems.

Those that don't believe we a global environmental crisis should be truly ashamed.
