I think and hope he goes 4-3-3 and uses one of our left backs at left back. Be it Soaure, PVA or Schlupp. I personally think a fully fit Souare is the best LB at the club but despite the mistake and him being a frustrating player, I don't think Van Aanholt is anywhere near as bad as some make him out to be. Same with Ward.

3 man midfield allows us to be versatile, Luka to sit and do the basics, Loftus Cheek to go box to box which I think given his physical presence plus his technical ability etc is what he should be doing, Cabaye to have more of a free role where he can get forward and roam a bit, he's the one creative spark Palace have and I think for too long he's been wasted and also judged as a defensive midfielder.

Townsend, Benteke and Wilf up top and hopefully he lets Wilf and Townsend stay in those more "inside forward" roles, allowed to be creative and cut inside, which I think especially Wilf is more suited to as oppose to traditional out and out wingers judged on how well they can cross a ball.

Avoids Benteke being isolated and also Loftus Cheek being thrown out on the left. He should be in the heart of central midfield bossing things for us whilst we have him.

I agree on those players' best positions being where you say. The problem is all of them being in those positions, possibly leaving areas to attack Ward at RB and a LB, and then if that's closed out we're a man down in midfield. For the 4-3-3 to work we'd really have to have one of Zaha or Townsend or both contributing behind the ball. I don't recall Roy playing 4-3-3 but he's a keen student on formations and getting them working rather than that previous t*****.

It's certainly an option, but scary for us as fans well as the opposition players. But we need wins and a flurry of them so maybe it'll go this way.

Good quote from Loftus Cheek. Does look like his best position is central midfield but clearly prepared to play where he is needed. At Palace I guess we have to find a way to fit both Cabaye and Loftus Cheek into the side, where probably central midfield is for both their best position?

Yes, Cheek always was and is suited to the centre, and with a view to attack. Clearly evident under frank whathisname from 2nd half v Huddersfield onwards.

I think the problem we have with Loftus-Cheek is that we have two wide players in Townsend and Zaha. Loftus-Cheek fitted in better last night with the full backs being the wide players. Hence, he looked better on the left and right. We will need to play him down the middle where the midfield players get stuck in. Not sure that’s the best part of his game?

Clearly better through the middle with a bit of roaming and triangles out wide. Started out wide he isn't the pivot he was last night. Look at the first touches and awareness, then linking defence with attack. Some things of his passes were a joy. Absolute class.

Seen it a bit for Palace. With Townsend v Swansea. Pass to puncheon at anfield. Get people working off him as a pivot and go to man and he'll be top man.

Gareth Southgate reckons "he is capable of anything". Let's hope that is helping us stay up this season. Himself also mentioned that he has a lot to do to get into the World Cup squad, every reason to shine with us. Needs to play regularly as think we will see the very best of him in the season run in, which certainly isn't as severe as last season.

I liked the way RLC linked up with Benteke against Southampton. A couple of nice moves which ended with decent efforts on goal.

Luka to sit, Cabaye to dictate the play. In front of them RLC to play off Benteke.

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Oh yeah it might've been Southampton he linked up with Benteke and not Swansea.

I've no doubt that once we have a fit striker RLC will be first pick to play in behind centrally.

The fully fit first team in a 4-5-1 / 4-3-3 picks itself (other than perhaps LB) and is decent. Only thing through fitness and dodgy 3-4-3s we haven't once been able to play it. The threadbare nature is there for all to see though take any one of the better players out and it's immediately back to playing someone who is basically not good enough or square pegs in round holes.

If we can be lucky with injuries I do still believe we will stay up - but that's a big if.

RLC seems strong when running at people and confident on the ball. If I were hypercritical though in the England game I thought he had chances to play the ball forward sometimes into strikers but turned backwards with it. Jermaine Jenas alluded to that (needs to have confidence in himself and have a pop sometimes) but otherwise also thought that he was very good.

Did you see the nice little 360-degree circle he did with the ball in the 88th minute? Wonder who he caught that from.

Let's hope his confidence spreads amongst the team. Can only be good for us in the longer term. Well done my son!
