my away record is long but a bit sparse - there was a 3-1 at Watford when Paul Hart was in charge after the 10 point deduction, progressively more mental in the away end as we went 3-0 up ... and a fine song:
"going down, are we f*ck,
minus ten and staying up" to the tune of Tom Hark.

a 1-0 at Orient b4 the Burnley game was another, but didn't have the party atmosphere and relations with the oppo fans remained cordial

I would be astounded if any of us 14,500 at Villa Park in April 1990 chose another match as their top away day above it.

Maybe one to bring back this season.

Peterborough in the last promotion season deserves an honourable mention. Sometimes it's hard not to miss that kind of spirit amongst Palace fans. Definitely has been in decline somewhat since promotion.

We were s*** at the time, Wrexham were the only team below us in the old 2nd division, we hadn't won away for 18 months, it was November, freezing cold, foggy, Wrexham was a s*** hole, we were fenced in like convicts, all 80 of us!!! But when Steve Lovell popped up with the winner 5 minutes from time and jumped up on the fence in front of us and we went mental it turned into one of my most memorable away days.

I was one those 80 or so. Remember going mental after the goal ad well.
On the special back home I'm sure a fella had a tape recorder and recorded the singing from us after we scored and we kept listening to it most of the journey back
Don't ask me why someone brought a tape recorder to a football match just remember someone did.
Monkey, were you on the special back?

The game at Leyton Orient back in 1979 deserves mention there were probably more than15000 of us in a 20000 crowd.

Yes I was, despite all the agro they attracted, it was the best way to go to games back then, you was considered a bit of a pleb if you went on the coach

I was also one of the 80 !
The best game has to be the Wrexham one in 77.2 goals in injury time. The feeling of sheer joy has been hard to beat over the years.
I got punched in the nose by a copper when we scored our second goal; scenes afterwards going back to the station were something else.

That is true....... Will always be the best game I ever went to. I was sent home from work for 3 days as I could not speak at all after all the cheering!!!

I quite like Norwich away. I stay in the Georgian Town House hotel, which gives me what would be a 30 minute walk to the ground. However, there are many pubs on the way, so it takes me a fair bit longer, ending in the beer garden of The Compleat Angler by the ground.

About 10 years ago I recall a woman looking out of the hotel window overlooking the ground, and she was mercilessly chanted at by Palace fans about looking like Pat Butcher from Eastenders. Football humour can be fantastic

After the game, me and missus Hillbilly had walked back to the hotel, only to find that dinner wasn't going to be served until 7pm (I think)
5 minutes walk from the hotel was a park, with a licenced café in it. It was a sunny afternoon so we ordered a jug of sangria on an outside table.
"Oh, I'm sorry", says the waitress, "You must be ordering food if you want alcohol"
"OK", I says "can we have a jug of sangria and a small bowl of nachos, to share ?"

And fair play to the waitress, she guessed we were alright, so took the order. 40 minutes later, back to the hotel for some food, wine and sleep.

And Palace lost.

I remember expecting the thrashing the moment I women up at stupid o clock to get one of the 4 or 5 10am special trains from Euston. Sudden change of possibilities after HT once Pembo nudged the ball down the wing and raced after it.

Coppell was and is a smart scouser.

I had been queuing for a leak so almost pissed all over the guy next to me when we scored just after half time.
