Yeah, dumb managers. Gary Hooper and Gestede didn't get more PL playing time because their team got relegated (Norwich and Middlesbrough), which is pretty much what's going to happen to Benteke too if we rely more on him. Gary Hooper CHOSE himself to go to Sheffield for a higher salary than stay with Norwich, knowing another relegation was bound to happen. Nobody wanted him out of the team. And before you say it's their fault that their teams got relegated, check out how they faired:

Hooper- 15 goals (excluding 3 penalties) and 8 assists in 3500 minutes for Norwich and before that a record 82 goals and 30 assists in 11.100 minutes for Celtic, something Benteke could never pull off. I'd like to see Benteke play for Norwich and see how he does

Vydra- 3 goals and 4 assists in 650 minutes in the Premier League for Watford, who wasn't the strong Watford we know today but newcomers 2 years ago!!

Benteke- 13 goals and 2 assists in 3600 PL minutes for Crystal Palace. Screw his Liverpool period, everybody who plays for Liverpool can score. His numbers with us show his true quality

Anyone watch football from any of the lower leagues that can think of any decent players with potential we might be able to pinch?

Good thread given that if we stay rooted to foot of Premiership by the start of Jan. transfer window, then can anyone really see top targets with Prem. experience wanting to decamp to team that is favourite to get relegated? Furthermore, transfer fees have gone stratospheric therefore maybe best to target those in form in Championship as more realistic purchases with what we are also prepared to afford? Burnley bought well in the likes of Chris Wood who has stepped up to the next level with growing success.

What about Martyn Waghorn from Ipswich Town FC who has scored 9 from 16 games?

Many who I'd be happy with at Palace.

From Wolverhampton: Cavaleiro (cause Helder Costa and Jota would be too expensive), Doherty.
From Middlesbrough: Assombalonga, Gestede.
From Aston Villa: Grealish, Hourihane.
From Derby: Vydra, Tom Lawrence.
From Leeds: Alioski.
From Sheffield: Gary Hooper, Forestieri+ Sougou who they released on a free.
From Brentford: Lasse Vibe, Sergi Canos.
From Norwich: Josh Murphy, Alex Pritchard.
From Fulham: Rafa Soares, Sessegnon, Sheyi Ojo, Cairney.
From Hull: Abel Hernandez, Grosicki, Bowen, Dicko, Jon Toral.
From Birmingham: Jota.
From Reading: Swift, Mannone.

bar 2 or 3 if this is the level we are aiming for we really are in trouble. Unless of course you are assuming these could be our targets in the championship!

How much playing time did Vydra, Hooper and Gestede in the Premier League and what have they done with it?
With the slight exception of Gestede (who comes close), the others did better than Benteke you know

Gestede has trouble getting picked ahead of Bumfluff. That should tell you all you need to know about him.
