Just got a bag of sand back on a claim.
I only clear £600 as government take tax and 30% fee to ppi company who charge before it's taxed hence £300 from a grand.
Never mind though still quids in.
Anyone had any luck.

I keep thinking about doing it, I'm almost certain I had it with my bank.

Which company did you use?

Please do not use these PPI firms. They are a bunch of money grabbing leaches. Its your money and you should keep all of it. It is very easy to submit a PPI claim yourself direct to the bank you may save yourself thousands. Mate of mine paid them £2000 when he told me I was furious, at the time I worked in a bank and would have done it for him for free.

The link below is for Martin Lewis' Money Saving Experts website. He appears to be a good guy who is often in the media with his campaigns. There are also other folks out there who will also offer independent free advice.

To claim PPI it is a simple form. Anyway look for the PPI Reclaiming tools link and good luck.

^^^^^^

Seconded.

One phone call to the credit card company saying 'i wish to make a complaint about ppi', then there will be a few sent forms to fill in and 'bingo!' - Do not use a PPI firm. It is literally less than hour of your time and their's to do.

Some of my credit cards are from 15 years ago and I don't have any paperwork. I also can't remember all the companies I've had credit cards with. A credit check only covers the last 6 years doesn't it?

I'm sure I used to have PPI on most of the cards I've had but I'll be buggered if I can remember them all.

Doesn't matter, I didn't need to provide details as the banks held all the information and are legally obliged to use it. I got about 7k back in total stretching back to 2000 on credit cards loans etc - including one I didn't remember.

Of course it feels like 'free money' but its technically your own money.

my old man got back 35k on past mortgages and the odd barely used credit card , I think he walked away with 29k after deductions . He would never of done the work to investigate himself so was happy to hand over a percentage of what he never realised he had !?

PPI deadline is 29th August 2019

This is not like arguing with your insurance company about a claim. Assuming you did have PPI the bank has a formula agreed with the regulator. In other words this is now a process for the banks they will not challenge you with lawyers etc. unless of course you didn't have PPI.

Excellent post, really appreciate this. I've been thinking about putting in a PPI claim for some time, and went as far as getting all the paperwork from one or two companies but was put off by the sizeable fee they were demanding. I knew it could be done for free but wasn't sure how to go about claiming on my own.

A woman I used to work with a few years ago received £14k back. Not sure which company sue used, but many people like her are often surprised at how much money they can claim in mis-sold PPI.

According to the FCA website, the deadline for PPI claims is 29 August 2019.

It is correct that a fee is paid and if you want you can do your own.
Please be careful and read some forums though as these companies are looking at a single word or sentence not to pay you ppi.
Generally the amount you get back is at least what you physically paid even after fees to ppi's
The other bits are interest in payments you made and interest annually. This bit normally will pay the ppi fees so you won't be out of pocket pound to pound.
These ppi companies know exactly how to get the best result as they have been doing it for years. If your happy with just some dough I recommend a company to do it for you.
Your choice obviously at the end of the day.
most ppi companies charge 20_30% plus vat and the tax man takes a bit off the figure before yours is given. The ppi company WILL take theirs off the gross figure before the tax man.
Bottom line it's nice to get any amount and it takes 2_3 months .
Still waiting for my kite but within 20 days of an award.
BUT DO BEWARE TRYING ON YOUR OWN.
YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED.
